Duncan/Ibanez pickups.
Hi there, I've just bought a new Ibanez sz320mh, it has these pickups on, I've read specs (magnet type, dc res.) But can anyone enlighten me as to if these are based on a regular 'Duncan model? Specs seem close(ish) to a DD/'59.
They do sound very good for 'stock' pickups on a cheap guitar. I am thinking of replacing though 'cos they're a touch too hot. Was thinking of Bare knuckles (I live in the UK), or 'Duncan customV/'59, or dimarzio airzone/air norton. Any thoughts, thanks.

Whats a variac do?
I know that it can increase or decrease the voltage going into the amp but what sound differences would there be for both increasing and decreasing the voltage? Also, I heard they were bad for the amp what would happen by running it at lower or higher voltage than normal?

Anderson Pickup Magnets
I've been using an Anderson H3 (nice pickup) and was wondering if anyone knows what type of magnet it or other Anderson pickups use? Their website doesn't mention magnet type.

Got a HUGE guitar instructional book last Christmas....
Well, I got a big guitar instructional book last Christmas. It's got alot of good info in it (retringing guitars, installing pickups, guitar cleaning methods, tabs, a load of pics of guitars from different companies, etc.) Anyway, I sat down a few times and tried to read and play the tabs and its almost like I get so overwhelmed with all the symbols and numbers its hard for me to concentrate and learn how to play the tabs. Anyone else get overwhelmed when looking at a tab book and just can't seem to play whats in them or is it just me? Maybe I should look into guitar instructional videos? I wanna learn how to solo and learn the soloing scales but the book I got leaves me so overwhelmed and confused because of all the tab symbols all over the place. Any thoughts on this?

Explain this thing with pre/power-amps to me please.
Well, how do they work. Like a head? I heard that you could just connect a pre-amp into a regular amp and use it as an effect, is that true? The reason I'm asking is becuase I'm thinking of getting a Marshall Jmp-1 pre-amp and maybe a 20/20 el84 poweramp. What are the pros and cons versus a head?

Guys I Need Your Help More Then Ever
Allright, here is the deal... In my town lives one extremley good luthier and guitar maker and i want from him to make me a guitar (custom shop). I saw his work and its flawless and really masterpieces. I need your help in next. I am a big fan of whammy so...would this combo can be good as floyd rose (not identical because i know it is impossible). Wilkinson tremolo system (if there is better tell me and how big differece is in wilkinson and amercian fulcrum or vintage tremolo?) 2 hipshot tremsetters and 3 tension springs (like Vai) LSR Roller Nut (or else if it would do the job better) and shaller or sperzel locking tuners? I know to strech strings and thah stuff... If it cannot be almost good as floyd tell me difference in tuning stabiliy betwen original and shaller floyd? Also i have heard that reversed headstock is better for tuning stability and guitar itself because of more balanced tension of strings, is it true? Basicly i want to make hotroded strat, Alder body, maple neck and fretboard with dunlop 6000 fret wire and scalloped neck. Please guys i lnow that these questions were ask for million times but i really need your opinios. Thanks in advance and sorry for bad english.

Bass Amp Advice
Well as some of you know a few weeks ago we had a Forum Jam here in NY. It was a lot of fun. I knew a lot of guys were going to bring there Duncan equipped guitars, so I decided to bring my Bass so we could do some Jamming.(I am a guitar player) Good thing I did we had a lot of fun. The Amp at the studio was a Hartke 2000, and I think as well as several other guys that were there thought the bass sounded awesome thru it. I was curious what other amps I should look at. I need to buy a Bass amp. Thanks guys.

What makes the pickup bad?
Sorry if i seem to be spammig the boards, im just really interested in these things.I know that a bad sound is what makes them bad but why? they all use a bobbin, windings, poles magnets so what makes one better then the other? What would make a junk stock pickup better? What if i replaced the poles with screws? or filed on them or somthing?

WEAK sustain on high e...
My high e sustains for twice less time than my other strings :| I have no idea what causes this. It's not the saddle, it doesn't seem to be the nut... The guitar is unplugged and I already lowered the pickups I just have no idea what it could be. Thoughts...?

What's a FRED like?
I'm thinking about buying a LP clone that the previous owner put 2 DiMarzio Freds in. Does anybody have any experience with these pickups? What Duncan models do they compare to?

JB and Jazz Seem quiet, any suggestions ?
Hey all, was wondering if you could point me into the right direction. I have an Ibanez Rg570 with the V7 and V8 pickups in. I installed a hotrail a while ago in the middle position also. I just got me Seymour JB and Jazz and i have installed them. They dont seem as loud as the V7 and V8 pickups and i was wondering if i had done something wrong. Now before i took the V7 and V8 out the rail was the same level as them. Now the rail seems quite a bit louder than the Jb and Jazz. They dont sit low in the pickup surrounds and I cant work it out. when I play the guitar clean the pickups seem very quiet and when I hit the Overdrive they get alot louder. But the rail seems to be loud. Would wiring make big differences to it ?
(By the way, think the rail will be replaced with a cool rails as its not really my style)
