does anyone know the difference? like technically wise.

I'm a big fan of mahogany strat bodies - and I feel I have good experience with mahogany and alder and ash bodies. I was wondering about basswood though - what's the sound like? I know they use it on JEMs and JSes and I guess a lot of RGs too...

Hey I got a Fender Texas Special which comes with the SRV pickups from his signature guitar...I like the sound...but i want something even hotter and possibly more noiseless. After checking out a bunch of pickups I've found I like the Hot Rails the best because of their fat humbucker tone...but yet I still want to produce an extremely CLEAN sound when I need to. I've got a vintage Blues Deville 4X10 amplifier and I just renewed the tubes so I'm really looking for a versatile sound right now. Thanks a lot if anyone can help.

I was wondering if there's any risk in staining a light rosewood fretboard dark?

Not sure if this is in the correct forum, but I am looking into purchasing some kind of effects board. I've gone a long way in not having any of my own effects. I'm sure my friends are sick of me borrowing there pedals. I am looking into purchasing either a Boss effects board or a PodXT Live. I am kind of leaning away from the Pod due to A. I don't plan on doing tons of recording. and B. I wasn't exactly blown away by the sound clips, it seems very digital but that is expected. Even though I havn't heard many clips of the boss, I think it will be the right choice. I may need to browse more info about it.

Just curious. Seen this pop up a few times lately. Generally, what thickness constitutes a quot;topquot; rather than a veneer?

I scored a cheap washburn with three single coils. I want to have a hum canceling single coil at bridge. The obvious thing to do is to wait for the new stack plus. But I really like the sound sample of fast track 1 and the fact it's much louder than a standard single coil. so should I put a fast track1 at bridge and stack plus at mid and neck? will that work?
how loud is the stack plus bridge?

Particularly what was used on the guitar solo; and how this was recorded for that matter.

Hey Im Modifying one strat I have... putting jumbo frets and I wanna change pickups... I decided on a Hot Rails Neck. Thinking about ttrying the Custom 5 or the Original Parallel Axis Trembucker in my guitar.. cause I dont want a bright pickup in bridge. Im going to use them like this : Clean sounds neck or middle; Dirty Rhythm Bridge; Solos : Alternating between neck and bridge.
Questions :

One is a mahogany guitar, the other is an alder guitar....can you tell the difference?
