What did you guys think of it? I played through one up at the music shop today and nearly shat myself, I've never heard anything like it!
Of course, it's about 1 grand, thats 1 grand more than I have to spend
Any of you guys want to send 1 grand to me to help my poor ass buy it?
J/k if you don't already know, I'd rather earn the money then have it handed to me. But seriously, from what I heard, it was killer.
I like them. Alot of people on the Forum don't. I have a Soldano 60 watter, and was considering replacing it with the XXX. I really liked the dirty fat distortion of the quot;crunchquot; channel. And the thick screaming tones from the quot;ultraquot; channel almost made me wet myself. This was to be the Lynch signature amp before the deal fell through.
Bottom line- I had my Soldano tweaked to give it more balls. I'm pretty happy with the tone I get from it, but I still find myself searching eBay and craigslist for used XXXs!
First time I heard it I HATED it so much, after I tweaked with it a bit it took everything in me to keep from having to change my underwear on the spot. I've been scouting e-bay looking for a used 2x12 but all the have is those little 40 watters, I need 120 watts and 2x12s, heh.

120 watts are you insane?
I had one of the combos for awhile, and I thought it did high gain stuff reasonably well. The price tag is not to hard on the wallet either.

120-watt practice amp. now thats heavy artillery!!!
Love mine to death. I only use the crunch channel for rhythm, unless I want to looser, almost more 'twangy' feel of the ultra channel. Otherwise, the Ultra is for leads only.
This amp is honestly the best purchase I've made guitarwise ever (Although, my RR1 comes in today, so that could change...). I worked construction over the summer to pay it off, and despite how sore I was afterwards, it was worth every shovelful of dirt I scooped. Alot of people don't like the amp, or think it's too buzzy or unfocused...that's a load of BS. Tight as hell, insane harmonics, crunches and chugs with the best of them.
I've played Marshall DSL's, TSL's, JMP's, JCM800 and 900's, Mesa Recto's, F-Series, Stiletto's, and Mark's; none sound as good as my XXX.
That said, I'm DYING to try out a JSX, or at least try EL34 tubes in the XXX.

Then again I like more of a Marshall sound over Mesa sound anyway. Also, you can try some lower gain pre-amp tubes to tame the gain some as well. And $1000 for an XXX is kind of steep....I got mine for $750 new a few years ago...so I wouldn't pay any more than $800 personally.
E34L's? Everyone at the Peavey forums, including the tech support guys at Peavey say that they're unsafe, as they draw too much plate voltage?

That gave me a laugh, yeah, I'll be gigging with it. As of now, I'm gigging with a no-so-good Line 6 Spider II, I got it like last year. I've been hungry for something high-gain and tube, but my wallet can't put up with a Mesa Recto or a Krank(they don't have Kranks around here anyways, and I wouldn't dare buy one without trying it). So that leads me to the XXX, I've never heard such tone come from a high-gain tube amp before(haven't played through a Soldano or a Bogner yet, though).
But my problem boils down to money, I have 11$ to my name at the moment so go figure. I turn 18 in May so I'm gonna try to get a alright-paying job and finance it maybe? I'm impatient with things like that, kinda makes me wonder how I'm as patient as I've been with guitar.
I played through a XXX at a sam ash once....sounded very good even at low volumes....a grand isn't too too bad..if I didn't already have a vetta I woulda bought a more expensive tube head..but I heard and saw the price of my AT-100 and had to have it they're only 699...yeah, that's cheap for a two channel all tube head..but it doesn't sound cheap when you hear it, trust me..
funny u should mention the spider..I have a vetta upgraded to II software..and it didn't cut it in practice so that's why I got a hankering for a tube amp..something that would friggin' cut through...
oh, and here's a little bit of science for ya...a 60 watt tube amp is 80% as loud as a 100 watt tube amp....tubes, I mean, food for thought =)

Agreed. I hate it.
It seems to do the quot;modern high gainquot; thing well enough. Cleans aren't bad either. Overall, it seems to be a good amp for the money.
That said, I'm not a quot;modern high gainquot; kinda guy.

I know....I've had them in for a while now with no problems but I got them before all that stuff stirred up.
They are close tonally to the EL34s though and I would just get those instead next time.
With that being said though, I don't care for the amp in it's stock form. Don't like the cold bias and the power tubes.
Put good tubes in the amp and bias it warm and it will sound 100 times better IMO. Most people don't like them stock but they should really put some quality tubes in there.

i love my XXX. and i got the combo for only $930, which is pretty damn good
I played one last month had the same type of reaction. Like quot;OMG, I NEED this.quot; The lead tone is just so damn sweet coming from a high gain amp, and the crunch channel is almost perfect for what I like in a rhythm sound. I've been putting money away for a combo ever since I tried it. Should be another couple months
I'm still scouting e-bay, any other good places to watch?

Pshhhh, why don't you guys get a classic 50 and enjoy some good peavey tone!??? At least you'll sound different from the other hi gainer metal players
Or how about a silverface vibrocloned bandmaster reverb through a 2x15 loaded with d130f's? Now that's a tight tone for some serious dragon slaying riffage!
