So, I tried a search and found some mentions about this pickup, but I didn't see any explanations to what it actually sounds like. Anybody know? Someone from SD? How well can I compare it to the sound of quot;Iommiquot; -album?

There is a Duncan Design and a Duncan Custom shop, the Duncan Design can not be bought retail. I have not tried either, theodie, one of our forum brothers has 2 of the Duncan Design Iommi's maybe he will pop in. I have a set of the Gibson Imooi's that Tony uses in all his guitars now, and I'll just tell you this...they sounds like nothing else I have ever tried. If you want the tone from Tony's solo record, stop looking and just get a set of the Gibson Iommi's...they will get you there in the riught guitar with the right amp.

I'm talking about the CS Iommi. The reason I'm interested is as it's a stock pickup on a new Jackson model which i'm considering buying.

One could think that the Duncan and Gibson models would sound quite the same, if Iommi's tastes haven't changed and he requested a similar pickup from both companies. What is the Gibson like? Tell some more, if you can! Thanks!

As for the Gibson I'll tell you this, it is a very balenced pickup, very strong bass, very strong but not blairing mids, and a strong treble that never sounds harsh. It's pretty hot, but it does not quot;feelquot; like a highout pickup like a Distortion or an Invader, it feels more like a 59 but it will pound the front end of your amp! If you use them and make full use of the tone control they can propduce a tone of different tones and timbers...just listen to Iommi, that is the sound! One thing I can tell you for sure, that pack a mean punch! These are one of the punchiest humbucking pickups I have ever played!

If you have any specific questions let me know.

Can you (or anyone) tell me any specifics, magnets, dc resistance etc. on either pickup? What I know so far is that the SD pickup is a rail pickup, like Dimebucker and X2N. That's all.

Your description about the Gibson pickup sounds very nice. I'll have to look into those, I may even get them into another guitar as well! How well does the matched set work? Thanks!

Anyone?

Thanks! The magnet is not alnico 2 or 5 nor is it a ceramic magner...it is a Special magnet that Gibson uses ONLY for the Iommi, the DC reads in the high 16k range for the bridge and the high 15k for the neck pickup is my memory serves me. and they are blades as well...the pickups are epoxy filled so getting the covers off are not gonna happen. As far as the matched set...I would never run only one of these with another pickup...I know for a fact I would be unhappy with it. I hope that helps

Okay, thanks! The Gibson sounds quite nice and quite much what I'm looking for, I wonder if the SD version is of equally interesting design.

One last try, anyone???

A few Jacksons actually come with the Duncan designed HB-104's that look like the Iommi's but, they are Duncan designed not the custom shop models. Some of the Jackson JJ's come with the Scott Ian custom shop pickups that also look like the Iommi's also but, they are not the same thing. Which Jackson model are you looking at bro?

TGWIF: 15k in the neck? wow, thats HOT! how are the cleans on it?
KB rhoads?

id ask around at the JCF, a couple dudes there have the bond rhoads so theyd probably be able to help

Jackson Professional KB-1 Kevin Bond Rhoads, AFAIK the only production axe from ANY company with that Pup in it

Yep. I'm looking for a new guitar and the KB Rhoads looks quite perfect. You can check out the details on In short, neck-through mahogany and ebony board with very cool pentagram inlays, black color with red bevels and logo. TOM with a single bridge hum. Japanese.

Thanks with the info so far, anything more?

Thanks but I don´t need to check them out, I knew them almost 6 months before it was available to the public and played one myself shortly about a week ago, but over an unknown crate, (that´s why I´m not commenting on the Iommi, as I have no solid reference point in my stable)... For example the public will probably never know that the Green bevels one was supposed to have Pot-leaf inlays, but this was shot down on the grounds that pot is still illegal in the states, but the prototype had them. Kevin Bond now owns that guitar

BTW, KB is also a JCF member, even of not exactly a regular poster, and there a huge thread in teh Import Jacksons section about the guitar where he also chimes in once or twice... How cool is THAT? Answers about a signature guitar directly from the fingers that quot;havequot; to play it every day

Yep, I know that you know and I knew it too. I've been an extremely regular lurker on the JCF for what, two years now? Haven't really posted as I didn't think that I would have too much in common with the people and not so much extra to say. Well, maybe I should start a thread on Cognac.

As for the cleans, I find them better that most hot buckers...they do slam the front end of your amp, but they do still have a good clean tone.

how did it play? the more i look at the features and stuff, the more the price is becoming justifiable to me, so im really curious about how it feels and plays and such. i did join the JCF to find out more, but though there are some damn cool pics in that thread, there isnt much detail about the playability, just that its lightweight and quot;plays greatquot;, and id like a bit more specifics (fretwork, neck size, overall comfortability, etc.)

I have two of the Duncan Designed Iommi models. They are dark and powerfull but are very scooped. They can easily get lost in the drums in a band. Here's what an EQ curve would look like on a graphic EQ (AAA_________________AAA). They are in a Northern Hard Ash bodied strat with a heavy strat bridge and maple neck.
