I know nothing. Series? Parallel? WTF? I don't get it. Pretty much I have three pickups, 2 humbuckers, and 1 single coil. I have SD Jazz, Lil 59, and DD on another guitar, but this one is going to be loaded with Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell, in the Neck. Ibanez S1 in the middle, and Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge.
Please forgive the question regarding other than Duncan pickups, but I've seen other people post about them, and this is strictly a wiring question.
This switch has 8 lugs in a row. Numbered as such: 12300123 What the **** does that mean? What do those numbers represent in relation to the switch positions?
There are 5 switch positions, but only 4 numbers? God help me! What does it all mean?
Where do I hook up the lead wires IN RELATION TO the 5 switch positions.For example, the answer I'm looking for will look something like this:
When the switch is all the way to the left side, it will turn on poles 3, when it's in the middle, it will only turn on poles 2. ......
It's easy.
The switch is a 5-way sequential with shared contacts and intermediate detente positions. Let me explain what that lot means.
The 1-2-3-0 are the contacts. The 0 is the quot;commonquot; contact which moves between the three others making contact with first the 1 contact then the 2 contact and finally the 3 contact. However because it is a 5-way switch there are stop positions or quot;detentesquot; between the 1 and 2 and between the 2 and 3. In these positions the 0 contact makes contact with both 1 and 2 and between 2 and 3.
The switch is actually two switches in one, as is the traditional Fender 5-way.
Normally the 0 contacts are used as the output contacts and are wired together the pickup signal wires are taken to the 1-2-3 contacts on one side, the tone control wires are taken to the 2-3 contacts on the other, like this:In this diagram the neck pickup is the red wire to position 3, the bridge is the blue wire to position 1. Where you attach the lead wires depends on which way round you have the switch, but for a 3 pickup guitar the middle pickup always goes to contact 2 and the output always goes to contact 0. It doesn't matter which side of the switch you use for the pickups and which for the tone as the contact sequence is identical. The switch lever always points away from the active contacts, except in the middle of course...
