Alnico5 and around 10-11 k , what is the difference in tone , EQ , ouput ?
I believe that with his double row of screws the Demon should be brighter , more precise as the SDeco would be thicker ?

I know nothing about that which you speak.

I like to know as well since a lot of people here claim that the SD is on the bright side?

Is this thread a wise idea since it is taboo to speak of such pickups?

It is NOT taboo to speak of pickups which already exist, especially not in the form of a product comparison.

What´s banned is quot;We want a 10-12k PAF as a production model pickupquot; or similar threads /derailing posts

So speaking of the custom/59 hybrid isn't banned then is it? I know that's walking a fine line there, but isn't that the same kind of pickup that's being referred to here?

I don´t think I can say it any more clearly than the second line, so I won´t even try

To answer the question though yes I found the Demon to be brighter than the SDeco.

Could you give a little review on the SDeco?
I've been amazed by low output pickups clarity under distortion but like the feel of higher output buckers. Medium output should be perfect in theory.

Here is a review posted by a forum brother back in Jan of this year...his was a JB he sent to MJ at the CS for a rewind...

Specs first...
Alnico 5 ~ 11.4k
Coil 1 ~ 5.6k
Coil 2 ~ 5.8k

Tone:
TO DIE FOR! Ok, seriously, it sounds just as intended; a hotter and thicker '59 that still possesses the very open cleans of a quot;normalquot; '59. It has a very nice balance akin to the '59 with a bit more punch and thicker midrange due to the overwind. It has awesome clarity even when heavily overdriven. The harmonic content is just unimaginable. With every note the harmonics just ring and fill the room. At first I thought quot;brightquot;, but really it's the vast harmonic overtones coming out. MJ, you wound a winner dear!

I let a friend at work whom is much older than I and has played late 50s early 60s LPs play this one and all he could do was smile. He said, quot;it took me backquot;. Of course we agreed it has more oomph than old PAFs but that is it's purpose.

I have a Jazz in the neck currently and they are a great match. Still though, I want to try a Pearly Gates neck and see if the harmonically rich duo pair up as well as expected. If so, I will post within a few days / weeks after.

yes, the 59 and the JB use different guage wire...I don't know what the SDeco uses but im guessing 43

The Demon, anything has to be warmer than that pickup! Its like an ice pick to the ear with me! I personally do not put the Demon in the PAF catagory even though some folks are interested in its resistance range. If it had slugs instead of screws or hex peices maybe it would be there???

I bought a Demon used from Stratcat. I want to hear what it sounds like first, then I think I'm going to try it in hybrid form with a '59 slug coil. I'll see if that warms it up at all.

Might be worth while?? Though, it will not be 10K anymore. 9-9.5 might still be cool???

I don't need a super hot pickup. I just want something a little hotter than a '59 (although I really love the '59 in my Paul.) I will eventually try a C-5 too. I definitely want to try an a5 Deco in the future too.

Well I used the Demon for a few months before I switched to the 59 in my LP. I wouldn't call it an ice pick but it is a fairly bright pickup. In fact I found it a little thin, the mids were pretty open and very adjustable but I just couldn't get the low mids to hang the way I wanted. I tweaked and adjusted but never got out of it what I was hoping for so I dropped in the 59 which I love. Never had the SD Deco sorry.
