This is the one. I played one a while back, and I remember it being pretty good. This was ages ago though, back in the days when I didn't know too much about guitars. I really don't think I can finance $3k for a full-on Gibson, but this seems plausible. What do you guys think? Any opinions?

Epi makes a good guitar, not always great though. The usual caveat is that you really should play it before you commit to it just to make sure it's something that you'll be happy with.

I would suggest though taking a look at the Japanese Les Paul clones from the 70's, 80's and into the mid-90's. These are guitars that were made at the same factory the quot;Ibanez Lawsuitquot; guitars were made at and had brand names like quot;Burnyquot; quot;Grecoquot; and quot;Tokai.quot; I own two Greco's and one Burny and all three of them are phenomenal guitars, not just for the money. They're phenomenal next to the Gibsons they're a clone of. I picked up both Grecos for less than a grand total.

I have 7 Epiphone Les Pauls. That should tell you what I think.

I love my Standard Plus. Sounds amazing with a CC in the bridge. Of course Jazz bridge sounds badass too (listen to JOLLY's clips).

You gotta play several of them. If one of the Customs I was looking at played like my Standard Plus, I would have gotten the Custom instead.

One model that I'd love to try out is the LP Ultra.

What do you guys think of the Epi Elitist LP Standard model?

The Elitist series have a fantastic build quality by all accounts. I think I played a few at GC and was very impressed with them. They were well on par with the Gibson counterparts and surpassed them in some respects.

The danger with them is that it is an Epi and for the money new it puts you firmly into the category of used Gibsons.

They are selling for $799 w/ free shipping at American Music Supply.

Cheaper than a regular custom...

Yay.

I just got an Epi Les Paul Custon two weeks ago and I love it more every time I play it

Thanks guys!

Part of me wants a Black Les Paul because Adrian Smith has one. The reason why I got my Strat in sunburst is because of Adrian's (avatar).

from : localhost/wouldn't be surprised if I get my title changed to Adrian Smithologist.

I have an Epi Lespaul Custom (limited Edition) and it plays awsome and sounds excellent, it sounded even better after i put a Duncan Distortion in there

Epi Lespaul Custom

Cheers!

Dude. That's sexy! I'm seriously GASing now.

One question, whats the differece between a Gibson LP Custom and an Epiphone LP Custom? Is it really just production quality?

The Gibson will have a nitro finish, you will be guaranteed to have mahogany, the pickups will be better, etc, etc.

Certainly not a nay, not exactly a yay. A meh.

Well, I like the Epi classic that they've got at GC and MF, the transparent quilts and they're 100 bucks less than the custom...

you know.. to my, it doesnt make a big difference whether its a Gibson or an Epiphone. If it plays very good and sounds excellent, then to me its a good guitar. I dont care whether it says Gibson, Epiphone, LTD, etc..

But I have played some Gibson Lespauls and I must say that I was completely dissapointed with their some of the latest production. It seems to have gone down hill. All I had to do to the Lespaul Custom I have now is put a Duncan Distortion in the bridge, thats all. Other wise, everything else on it works and sounds excellent. I switched the pickup because i wanted somthing hotter and better sounding in the bridge.Cheers!

What the heck, I'll say it, Epiphone is a good low cost alternative to Gibson. I don't think there's anything that cops the Gibson tone, but a Gibson, but I've played some Epis that were very solid guitars. I use one royally beat up one from the 80s for alternate tunings, so that shows I'll support it enough to use it live.
