Hey guys. I just received the black Epiphone LP Custom (pretty nice) I bought on eBay yesterday, and managed to put a nice scratch in the finish with a string end within the first hour of owning it
It's not too thick or deep of a scratch, but definitely visible. Anyway to buff this out or make it less noticeable?

Also, can someone recommend a cleaning solvent to use on lifting some of the grime off the gold hardware?

Thanks.

since nearly all my guitars are black i know your problem. I mainly use a universal polish. It's mainly designed for cars but it works great on black poly finishes. It fills up minor scratches, seals the whole finish so it's harder to scratch it again and of course it looks shiny and feels real smooth. I guess something like that should be available about anywhere.

Awesome. Thanks LC, I'll look for some stuff like that. Almost all my guitars are black. What can I say, it's a good color.

How about for cleaning hardware?

I've scratched almost every black headstock I have like that. =( Very cool I may check this out!

3M Cleaner wax is an excellent product for general cleaning and waxing. I have also used polishing compound on my black guitars to remove the arm stain on the upper bowt. Chrome polish is good to use on all the hardware.

WD40 and a toothbrush works pretty well at getting gunk off. I just took all the HW off my strat for a good cleaning the other day. Just don't try and brush your teeth with it later!
