This is for a local wood shop. I think it is turning out well.I'm going to put a single Duncan in iit. The neck is maple with a maple fingerboard. Finish is TruOil.
The inlay is Paduak and Bocote, BTW.
Very nice, how was the logo done?
Never mind, just saw your second post.
Very nice!!!!! I like how its sort of a psudo tele creation. I am building one right now also.
Nice work dude, what is that weird hole where the bridge goes? is that for a piezo bridge?
The hole is for a wire to ground the bridge. I haven't done a piezo bridge yet. I'd like to, though.
The inlay was acutally done by a friend with his home built CNC machine. I needed it to be as close to perfect as I could get it. Plus, I think he wanted to see how good the accuracy of his new CNC machine was. I'm finishing it right now, I've put 3 coats of TruOil on it today.
how hard or complex is it to build a guitar, if say... you had all the parts to a guitar? is it a task that one can work on and learn from or does it require professional teaching?
it would be pretty damn nice to build my own guitar...
It's a lot easier than you would think to build a playable instrument. But, to get that instrument perfect takes orders of magnitude greater than you would think. The hardest part is the quest for perfection. I've built quite a few now, and I still make dumb mistakes. Plus, wood is incredibly dissimilar. 2 pieces from the same tree have different characteristics. One might work fine, the other might chip out all the time. You never know, and it is discouraging to get almost done and find a flaw in the wood or some tiny imperfection that happened, even though you did everything right.
But, the best reason to build guitars is that it is fun. I don't do it for the money, as there doesn't seem to be any in building guitars. I wind my own pickups, too, and there doesn't seem to be money in that either, especially what with a company like SD making such great products. I mostly do it for the fun and to challenge myself.
In fact, right now I'm not playing one of my own built guitars, but an Ibanez 550 with a JB in the bridge and a rewound single coil in the middle, stock neck, and it sounds great. It will do almost anything I want. I just can't help myself, though. I like to tinker, and I like to be doing something with my hands.
And, you don't need to go to school to build guitars. But, like anything else, I'm sure it would help.

Very nice...I've had several custom longbows built out both of those woods...bocote in particular is GORGEOUS...it's a very dense wood ..longbow shooters like it because of that density...makes for less vibration/kick in the hand at the shot..it should add nicely to the tone of the guitar in some way.
