I am looking at warmoth replacement necks just in case I dislike the
line 6 variax 500 neck. what did you think of the neck and what where
the specs (frets, radius, scale length) you required?...thank you all for
your invaluable info and experience. chris

my warmoth strat neck is a maple with rosewood fretboard, '59 roundback profile. it has 6130 frets, compound radius and a clear satin finish. I couldnt be happier with the back profile.. just like a paul. the satin finish takes a week of playing or so before it gets good and smooth, but once it does it makes for a very smooth neck. i highly recomend warmoth's stuff, its top notch.

I put really good..... would of been Excellent but my tastes have changed over the years and the options i put on my Warmoth neck are not what i would do today..... Nothing they did wrong... It is still my best guitar i have ever owned!!!!

I shelled out big bucks for a rosewood neck with ebony fretboard, abalone dots, jumbo frets (can't play anything but jumbo), standard thin contour, and the Warmoth compound 10-16quot; radius. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. They made me pay extra for a dark piece of rosewood, but it was necessary if I wanted a blue-green burst finish on the body. At first, I didn't like the back contour but it's really growing on me. The compound radius is quite comfortable. I had a little trouble getting low action on it, but it appears that's the fault of my nut and bridge.

I've had one on a homemade strat since 1993. Best neck I ever played on. Straight as an arrow and never any problems at all with it. It has the the Warmoth compound 10-16quot; radius, boat contour, maple neck/fingerboard, 6105 frets, satin finish.

I'm planning on building another one and will be ordering from them.

The Warmoth neck of my LPS for me is one of the few quot;same or better than sexquot; things in life

Warmoth necks are very well made necks, though I think USACG necks are even better!!

The thing with Warmoth necks is they build them exactly as you like 'em, y'know? You just go to a guitar shop, play every single guitar, write down what you loved about which necks, find out what the numbers are online, and give that to Warmoth. Bam, perfect neck.

I was really worried that my Warmoth's neck was gonna feel bad but when I first wrapped my hand around it, it felt like home.

I haven't put my Warmoth project together yet, but as best I can tell through inspection, the construction of the neck looks top notch. They even did a great job finishing it.

ive had a few warmoth necks, and TODAY i just got another guitar/neck in the mail, and just like all the other times, perfect stuff. i think they do a really awesome job with the binding, it feels better in my hands than any other neck i have played.

bumpidy bump bump....thanks for the info guys

I´ve used Warmoth necks with all sorts of differing specs, and have always been pleased... It´s possible to get better, but it costs more.... And then you may as well have it handmade to your specs

The only real issue I´ve ever had is the fretwork is sometimes a tad funky (But it´s MUCH more consistent than say Mighty Mite, Allparts or Stew Mac, and usually just fine), but they recommend a leveling anyway

I agree. It is better than the ones you mentioned though.
Whenever I have done a warmoth I always ask them to ship it unfretted. I like my work a bit better.

for that one person so far that has voted that they wont buy from them again, why?

doesnt GJ's racecar strat have a warmoth neck? Did you like the warmoth better than the fender custom shop?

Just don't get the pre-cut nut installed, it's a worthless waste of money.

But... what about the people who can't make their own nut; or doesn't have aviable luthiers\techs?
Can Warmoth make necks to ANY specs you ask for? Or do they have set perameters?

Go to and check out their neck opitons. I believe that they can make custom headstocks on special orders though.

One thing i really miss is a quot;fatback bass neckquot; profile, and i'd also love to have a maple F.B on a non-maple neck....

I'd look hard for a good tech. I had the piece of junk put on my guitar, and two professional techs and a friend who went to MI's GCA (guitar craft) said it was no good, poorly made and not cut correctly. Waste of cash. Consider yourself warned.
