57' RI Goldtop. As impressed as I was with the quality of the Standard I picked up from TC, this guitar is in annother league. Holy smokes. 8.1 lbs, long neck tenon, straight, tight grain on the back, one piece body. BB2 in the neck, BB3 in the bridge, and they are actually pretty damn good.

This guitar is a 98' and there isn't a scratch or nick on the top anywhere. There is some very minor worming on the back, but not bad. It needs a new nut ( I knew that going in, it was setup for 70's on the low E), and it needs a different pickguard (one on is just a little off) but for now it plays fine until I can get the proper nut. It resonates very much like an acoustic....smooth, open, bright but warm....really, really cool. No wonder everyone is raving about their re-issues. This is guitar quality at a whole different level.

Wow.
Keep a bib handy to keep drool off of it... lol

Looks beautiful mate... But, in front of a marshall? Really. It doesnt do it justice...

Nice peace man, enjoy it.

If you don't, feel free to send it my way .

Great find Jeff

That photo really warms my heart. If I were you I would keep it in my wallet and show my friends every day. My friends would understand.

very sweet...and not helping my recent gold top itch either hahaha

very nice ..

I LOVE Goldtops ....
Curly....your's was the purchase that fueled my fire for a GT. I wasn't really in the market after just buying TC's Standard, but a deal came up that I just couldn't pass on, so I took the plunge.

Hey Jeff....Beautiful gold top there brother....Enjoy!

The gold one was my #1 for a couple years. I can't make up my mind which one I like more, nowadays.Damn you all to hell ... Must restrain myself from running to Bud's and placing an order.
Next thing you know, you'll all see me living in a cardboard box with my Gibson telling the people waiting for the bus that quot;I got the Ritz here with my place ... see ... it's says Kelloggs ... how's that for class ... Hey babyquot;

So I've been playing this for a while. Back and forth between the Standard and the RI. The neck on my Standard is a 50's profile, but compared to the RI it feels like a 60's Slim Taper. The neck on the RI is just THICK. Not uncomfortably thick....a really nice thick. Does anyone know if all 57's have super thick necks, or is mine an oddity?

nice looking guitar.... i'm surprised by the weight of it, for some reason i thought it would be much heavier. It isnt a cloud 9 is it?

All the R7's have the deep C chunky neck. Mine's not technically an R7. I was told by a rep at Gibson that it was neither marked as a Standard or a Historic, since it was made as a Standard that was being experimented on when the Historic division started.
They started making goldtop Standards with the accents of an 57 Reissue. So, mine has a regular 59 profile and chrome bridge, but has the aged laquered binding associated with Historics. Whatever it is, it's one of the best sounding and playing guitars I own.

I love it!!! I think I will have gold in my sights for my next historic. the neck on the '58 I just got is a little less chunky than the '59. How is your neck? Any pup changes scheduled for the near future?

there's gold in them there hills!!!!!

damn...I need some G.A.S.ex!

Jeff,
mine has the big ole chunky neck ... I think that's the spec on '57s, and I was told that the RIs have bigger necks than the Standard 50s.

I used to think they were too big for my small hands. After zep and Scott got theirs, I went and took another look, and found I could play 'em OK. Then a friend told me you get used to what you play.

He' right ... now some of my other necks feel too small.

All those Goldies amp; nary a P90 in the bunch????

Awesome..congrats Jeff. I was never a big fan of Goldtops personally but thats a sweet lookin axe. Coppertops are another story however Yikes... if the necks bigger than the 50's profile on my standard, I guess I'm gonna have to stay away from the R series axes. I like the 50s neck on mine but its about as big as I like to go with.Nice Marshall, BTW. Bought the exact same combo when they started selling those
