does anyone know if filtertron pickups whould sound good in a solidbody, ive only seen them in hollowbodys and really love the sound, and im curious to put them in my sg

I think they would sound great, as long as you're playing through a warm sounding amp.

I talked with Bill Crook of Crook Custom Guitars a while back about a Tele he built with Filter 'Trons. He built it for the guy that plays in Brad Paisleys band (don't know his name) and said that it was OK, but everyone agreed that in order to get the best sound the guitar should be semi hollow. Given that you could try it and if it sounds good to you then great!! Are you trying to go for a Gretsch kinda sound?? If so then my guess would be that you aint gonna get the Gretsch vibe out of the SG.

A cheaper alternative would be the GFS filtertrons. I think that an SG with filtertrons would sound great. I like the Hot Nashville sound samples. Plenty of Gretsches have filtertrons and solid bodies.

I just dropped a pair of TV Jones quot;designedquot; hi-lo trons in a solid alder Tele body (this body was routed for 2 P90's). The Hi-Lo trons were nearly a perfect fit. I actually like them better now than when they were in the semi-hollow Gretsch New Jet (model 6114) I pulled them out of. I play with 500k CTS pots though a '72 Twin Reverb or a late 70's Hiwatt 100 with a 4x10 cab. Not 'hot' sounding or loads of output but they are very articulate for solos and crunch up nice on chords when the tubes are glowing. Try it, you'll like it?!
