I swear those fingerprints and swirls aren't there in real life...blame my crappy photography. Anyway, that's a Squier '51 in Vintage Blonde (aka Baby Poop Yellow) with a WD Aged Pearl guard and a GFS Liverpool Filtertron clone wired (thanks to Artie...) with the stock 3-way rotary switch to provide Series, Parallel and Split operation.
A fun project that ended up as a very cool guitar.
Looks awesome, very unique. Where did you gte that control plate? I'm building an aluminum bodied Esquire-type Tele (Strat hardtail, P-90 in the bridge), but I can't seem to find any but the normal control plates.
Nice man, at first I was like quot;wheres the pups?quot; haha, and I thought the 'bucker was the bridge. Then a second glanced prooved my idiocity. Nice man.
Dude, you have to record some clips with the filtertron, I've been wondering exactly the type of tone those bad boys have, and I've also been thinking about a Squier 51 even though I know I shouldnt. Is there anyway you could record some clips?
So it's a BASS control plate eh? I never would have thought!

It's designed to look like the control plate fromt he original '51 P-Bass, but it's the stock control plate for the '51. I'm not sure if it's the same size as the ones you'd find for bass or not. It's been a couple of years since I played a '51 P. It might be the same size...Originally Posted by big_blackSo it's a BASS control plate eh? I never would have thought!
For $25 I don't know if I want to take the chance it won't.
Well, there aren't any dimensions mentioned on the WD site, but based on the photos, I'd guess that those panels are the same size as the ones on the '51. The relative position and size of everything seem to match up. As to whether it would work on your project...no clue. If you've already got a control cavity the size and shape of a normal Tele's, I would guess that it wouldn't be big enough to cover the hole.
I had a couple of clips up at my Soundclick site demoing the difference between parallel and split mode, but I took those down earlier today. I'll try to record something in the next couple of days that uses all three modes and post the results here. Just try to listen around the playing...Originally Posted by joelapDude, you have to record some clips with the filtertron, I've been wondering exactly the type of tone those bad boys have, and I've also been thinking about a Squier 51 even though I know I shouldnt. Thats find, would you mind PMing me when they're up? I'm a forgetful person.
Sure thing.
Wow, that guitar has serious mojo. Nice!

And you split the coils on it??? If so... you did what I always wanted to do on my old Jet Firebird!! How does it sound?
That's pretty nice, bro. That aged guard really makes it look like an original 51. Good choice.
Thanks! I agree. It's definitely an instrument that makes me want to carry it up on stage.Originally Posted by Jonny RWow, that guitar has serious mojo. Nice!
Unfortunately, TV Jones only uses 2-conductor wiring and if there's a home remedy for that, I don't know how to do it. The pickup in there is a GFS Retrotron Liverpool.Originally Posted by B BentWait....so is that a TV Jones 'Tron? And you split the coils on it??? Those are very cool looking axes....sure can't beat the price!!!
looks good man...i got to pick up a couple a few days ago for the first time...not bad at all for the $...i really liked the neck and finish on a burst one buy it had a 1/2 inch sharpie mark coming out from under the control plate. pretty good looking finish except for that.
Very nice! -I gotta get me one of those...
That looks great! I just made a trade for one of the Squier Teles with two P90's. I'm going to set it up as a five string for open G. It's a good guitar, no issues or anything. And it was CHEAP!!!
