So I was wondering if anyone had any expirence with making there own guitar body. If so what kind of equiment will I need? And is it even possible for me to learn?

I've made lots of bodies.. Fender copies mostly.. An SG as well.... a few Double necks. If you start with a piece of 2 inch lumber you have to be able to plane and joint it. Glue and clamp it. Then design your body on the blank.... I cut my bodies out with a bandsaw and then use a drum sander to finnish the edges off nice.. Rout the rounded edges on the body. Then i use a router for the neck pocet with a template i bought at stew mac... I then locate and rout and drill for the bridge... Then rout out the pickups and electronic cavities... Then if it's a strat i use files and rasps to make the belly and forearm cuts... final sanding... then you have to finnish the body..... Spray equipment is a huge list by itself....

I've just done this one usingrouter, jigsaw (semi reasonable one with a good cutting depth), 4inch grinder with sanding disc, clamps, bucketload of sweat and sandpaper..

kind of cool.... But why is the bridge pickup so close to the bridge? It will be bright sounding there... Or is the bridge not installed? It should be on an angle

I heard that some guitar maker makes LP bodies really quickly and uses a disc grinder with sandpaper wheel to do the arch top in no time... I have not seen it done but i heard about it.

If you have not done anything like this before, Which I get the drift you havent. Fully research it and use extreme caution!!!! BTW, I just whipped up a super strat body today out of a one Peice Hondouran Mahogany blank and a Birdseye/figured maple top! I am going to do the binding on it next then rout the cavitys.
