that says it all...I won't play a 335 very much at all, but I would like to have one...what is a good cheep 335 copy? I will replace the pickups, pots, switch, and jack. I was looking at the new Ibanez Artcore's as well as the Whshburn (I can't remember the model name/number) and maybe even an Epi...ideas?
Ibanez Artcore.
High quality.
Excellent finish.
Good tone even with stock pickup.
Fast action.
Under $300.
Bought one.
Put a Jazz on the neck, a JB on the bridge with a Push/Push pot to split both and love it.
this one is cheep...actualy it's more like cheep cheep cheep...

Christian, I would opt for the new Yamaha SA500. Played one the other day and it compared favorably to my old SA2200. Don’t know the price in USD, though very cheap here in Australia.
USE THE B.I.N. OPTION !! You can't get better for cheaper. from : localhost/cgi.ebay.com/Samick-ES-335-St...QQcmdZViewItem If it Sux? I'll go down to Michael's Music and kick his A$$ for you. I've bought a few things from Michael over the years. He's got a cool Lil' shop. I haven't been there in a while... No place to park and not in the best part of town.
BTW, I have one of these's. If it's a SAN-450? JUMP ON IT !
anyone think anything about agile's
i have a 2800 and it is a darn good little guitar.

Korean Tokai's are pretty good build quality wise, pickups are weak but thats not an issue if your gonna change them
yeah, im thinkg the same thing, i looked at the Epi 335, but though, is there better for the same price?
The MIK Tokais are for sure in the running, although that $200.00 Samick might do the trick! I really want an old Yamaha SA 2200, but those have gotten pretty high in price in the last few years, but I must say that new Yamaha SA 500, looks kick ass!
Thanks for the ideas guys...keep them comming!
BTW...Mike, can I put a set of Seth's in that one?!

I have an Epi Sheraton loaded with Seths that's amazing. It has great tone, finish, fretwork, and wood quality. Maybe I got a good one, but this guitar rocks.
Oh, BTW, the inlays are killer.

Got to love the tree of life inlay. Though I suffered from mediocre fretting on two different Sheratons. I wonder what the Elite models are like...
I have a 333 that I played head-to-head against two 335s and preferred the 333 in each case (looks aside). You're probably looking for something in a lower price range but I figured I'd throw that out there anyway.

Go out and play all you can. I look for one that has a nice acoustic tone especially when played up the neck. A lot of semi's can sound banjo-ish on the upper frets; even the expensive ones can have this issue. Pickups can always be changed, although it is a bit of a pain in a semi-hollow.
A few good ones can be found among these models: Washburn HB 30 and 35 (my 35 has soft quot;Vquot; carve, Ibanez AS-80 and 120 (very skinny neck here) have the very good/excellent Super 58 pickups (can be microphonic on high gain), Hamer Echotone, Agile AS-820 (LP 59 like neck) and Hohner HS-35(nice quality hardware, except tuners are mediocre and has a wide neck with a quot;Dquot; neck carve). I am thinking of getting and Agile or a Hohner. One other note, the newest Hamer and Hohner models are produced in China and the tonal quality seems to have taken a hit IMHO.

I would really like to get a Casino or a used Heritage 535. I think the mahogany neck is great way to get a fuller tone. I dream of custom ordering a Heritage 535 with Phat Cats and a less than full contact sustain block for a more hollow-body vibe.

gt5litre, thanks for the help and the heads up...I agree BTW, I wish I could get a good cheep 335 WITH a mahogany neck but most seem to be maple. The Washburn's look pfretty good and go for almost nothing used, I also relly like the looks of that Yamaha SA 500 báratta mentioned and Im really gonna look hard for a DeArmond Starfire...I used to have an M75-T and it was an amazing guitar for the money and wold have still been a bargin at 2 or 3 times what it cost!
The Ibanez Artcore is a good choice.
