Hi guys,
Here's my problem: i have a Fender double Fat Strat with a JB/Jazz set in it. I'm using a Megaswitch P model for the PRS wiring and it seems like the JB is not splitting correctly. I flipped the JB magnet as recommended and wired everything according to the schematic and the Jazz PU seems to be working correctly, but on the 3 inbetween positions, the JB seems to be splitting the opposite coil?

Am i correct to assume the 2 outside coils are the ones closest to the neck and the bridge? and the 2 inside coils are the 2 coils with flat poles on the Jazz and the JB?

Please help.

Thanks

welcome

no, you dont have it quite right in your understanding of the nomenclature

for the neck humbucker, the 'outer' coil is the one closest to the neck and the 'inner' coil is the one closest to the bridge

for the bridge humbucker, the 'inner' coil is the one closest to the neck and the 'outer' coil is the one closest to the bridge

hope this helpsi'll try to 'draw' a little picture to go with this ...

|__________|
|__________| lt;-- neck
|__________|

( o o o o o o ) coil quot;1quot;
( o o o o o o ) coil quot;2quot;( o o o o o o ) coil quot;3quot;
( o o o o o o ) coil quot;4quot;

[-|-|-|-|-|-|-] lt;-- bridge

coils 1 and 4 are quot;outerquot; and coils 2 and 3 are quot;innerquot;hope this helps

cheers

ps: i have this exact switch for my AIIP and JB in my brian moore and love it

Thanks, i understand the coils now, but the JB is still not splitting correctly. On positions 2,3,4 the opposite coil is active.??

hmmm, without seeing your schematic and wiring i can only hazard a guess that you might need to swap your black and green wire from the JB ...

try that and let me know what happens ...

also are 2, 3, and 4 all hum cancelling?

good luck

Thanks,
i'll try that.

FYI- Everything is wired exactly as the megaswitch calls for with RED/WHITE as the coil tap and BLACK as the hot and GREEN as the ground on both pickups.

sorry..... yes they all seem to be hum cancelling. There are no strings on the guitar, i'm just tapping the coils with a screwdriver to see which is active.

Thanks

T4D.... switching the GREEN and BLACK wires worked! Do i have to worry about any phase isuues now? Should i leave the magnet flipped?Thanks

FWIW- i do notice a slight hum in position 3 (outer coils in series)

no, you shouldnt have phase problems and the mag flip is still required

i think the magnet flip takes care of the quot;reverse polarityquot; part and the green/black switch takes care of the quot;reverse windquot; part ...

mine slightly hums too ... i chalk it up to a shielding / grounding thing

glad to have helped

get strings on her and let us know how you like it !! ... i bet you will alot

cheers

T4D..... thanks soooooo much!
