Hey all, was wondering if you could point me into the right direction. I have an Ibanez Rg570 with the V7 and V8 pickups in. I installed a hotrail a while ago in the middle position also. I just got me Seymour JB and Jazz and i have installed them. They dont seem as loud as the V7 and V8 pickups and i was wondering if i had done something wrong. Now before i took the V7 and V8 out the rail was the same level as them. Now the rail seems quite a bit louder than the Jb and Jazz. They dont sit low in the pickup surrounds and I cant work it out. when I play the guitar clean the pickups seem very quiet and when I hit the Overdrive they get alot louder. But the rail seems to be loud. Would wiring make big differences to it ?
(By the way, think the rail will be replaced with a cool rails as its not really my style)

Wiring Info

Jazz =
Bare, green = Ground
Red and White = Pickup selector
Black = Tone pot

same as above with JB

Rail=
Red and white = together and taped
black = to pickup selector.
Bare and green = Grounded

On the Jazz and JB, the red/white should be soldered together and taped, unless you want to split the coils in certain positions. Are you wanting to retain that?

i think the wiring might be your problem ... the way you have it wired looks like you are only using half of the JB and Jazz pickups ...

you need to bring the JB and Jazz black wires to the pickup selector switch ... the red and whites need to be together on the 'split' lugs of the switch ...

i bet if you fix this, you will be much more happy

Where does the White/ red soldered together go ? in placement of the red before or the white before ?

Looking at the Ibanez wiring diagram for the RG, I think the red/white have to go to the switch and the black to the volume pot, not the tone pot like you have it. The red/white go to separate lugs on the switch giving you the split humbucker/middle single coil combinations in positions 2 and 4. The stock Ibanez pickups I believe are wired to the inner coil closest to the middle pickup is active in positions 2 and 4. Then in positions 1 and 5, you have full humbuckers.

The volume pot is covered with grounded wires though, does that matter ?

Looking at the diagram again, you're right. Oh man, what a freakin' mess. LOL Well, we know the green and bare go to the ground on the volume pot. Let me see if I can find a SD schematic similar.

Ok, think I got it. The black, red and white go to the switch. The red/white get soldered together to one of the switch lugs and the black to the other one (just follow the diagram). Follow the red lead of the neck pickup, solder red and white wires there. Follow the white lead of the neck pickup and solder the black lead there. That should work. Do the same thing for the bridge pickup. Just do one for starters and see if it works. If so, you're golden.

I looked at this schematic from : localhost//website...y-w-split.html but follow the Ibanez wiring for the switch.

are you using the ym-50 (5-way) switch?

That's exactly the one I was looking for. Ah well. Even though the switch is different, he can follow the Ibanez diagram for that.

yeah, but he cant use their colors because they dont match the SD colors

if i am reading that ibanez diagram properly ... their red equates to SD's black
... their quot;twisted shiedquot; equates to SD's green and their white corresponds to SD's joined red/white pair

Exactly. That's why I mentioned soldering red/white to one location and black to the other. Just use the Ibanez diagram to see which places on the switch to solder to.

Yeah im using the Ibanez 5 way selector. Here is the diagram clearer of the Original V7 V8 Setup.

yup - thats the one ... ym-50 switch

make sure you take the quot;0quot; lug on the hot side of the switch to the volume pot and the quot;2quot; lug on the split side to ground

So would the best way to do this be, follow the color converted wires you wrote down quot;tone4daysquot; ?

IBANEZ red = SD's black

IBANEZ white = SD's green

IBANEZ white corresponds to SD's joined red/white pair



this assumes using SD pickups with the ibanez stock switch

by the way, i think you might like a vintage rails between the JB and Jazz even better than the cool rails

From what I can find, the Ibanez pickup color codes match DiMarzio's somewhat. That diagram looks right.

The Ibanez white can only correspond to either ground or the SD's joined red/white, not both. The Ibanez ground looks like the shield, similar to a shielded cable or SD's braid.

the old ibanez white is probably the coil link, same as the red/white connection on a duncan. when in the 2 and 4 positions on a hsh ibanez the buckers are usually split to be humcancelling with the middle single coil. since you have a humcancelling pup in the middle i might not split the fullsize buckers.
if you do split the buckers youll get a brighter, cluckier tone in those positions

Your running just one coil with that wiring and would be a lot quieter than the rail. I bet they hum too don't they? Check out the schematics listed above.
