The first jam i recorded with my minidisc came out with none of these little skips or blank spots in the recording. But every time after that they all had little blank spots when i put it on computer or listened back to it. They are spots where its just stopped recording for a split second because the music keeps going and you can hear if you sing along to it in your head that when it kicks back in its still in the right spot, but the recording just stopped momentarily.

Has anyone experienced this before? If so, what causes it and can i get rid of it?

And im recording into the line-in on my minidisc from the mixing desks rec-out. Like i said, the first time i had no problem with it, but every time since its done things, and im pretty sure i havent changed any settings.

Thanks for any help

Mine does that every once in a while during recording and also during playback. I have found that this only occurs when I have an older battery in the unit, so now whenever I want to record I make sure to use a fresh 'AA'. Hope that solves the problem for you too.

nah i dont think that's it because i run it off mains with the AC adaptor.

sounds like it is inserting a 'track marker' on quiet parts...you might be able to defeat that feature.

If you are using a mic, make sure you have a good wire and good connections. This also applies to any input line, including anything that goes from the sound source to your recorder. If you are using more than one mic, keep them apart because sometimes they may cancel out each other on a certain frequency if they are placed too close to each other.

There are probably about four or five mics going into the mixer then it goes from the mixer rec-out to my MD through its line-in.

you could also try using a recording head cleaner, it could be that it's dirty...although maybe not.

absolutely not. i don't think MD recorders have recording heads.

from : localhost/the optical assembly (in the top clamshell portion) there's a magnetic recording head (hence Magneto-Optical, which MD is) and it sometiems gets dirty or worn out, but I dunno.

In all truth it could be cheaper to get a new one...well, not cheaper but you know what I mean.

This (and superior sound quality) is the reason I sold my MD and bought a DAT (which I also no longer have, lol)....

After a little while i found out what was causing the hickups in the recordings, its just that it was sitting very close to the speakers of the PA and with us all miced up the vibrations were so loud that they were causing the MD to skip while recording. I recorded last jam with the MD in my padded mic case away from the speaker and it recorded perfectly!

Problem solved
