I just got back from guitar center to try out some new guitars
I played all these guitars thru a crate VTX200
guitars I tried:
PRS SE
I really liked the tones and overall feel of the instrument except for the action on the
guitar felt really stiff and lifeless...a great guitar for the money but this one is not going
high on my list.
Schecter omen 6
I liked the feel of this guitar, the neck, the body...the fit...it was great for only being a $300 guitar....all it needs are duncans, tone pro's, and new tuners and you have a killer cheap guitar!!
Line 6 variax 300 (on sale for $319)the neck was crap but I pluged her into the pod XT live and she came to life
...lots of cool sounds...one negative is that she was red!!
with a warmoth neck and new tuners she could turn out to be a great guitar.
that was all I had time for cause my wife was bugging me to go cause we had
to get back home so she could go to work....anyways I will return to
guitar center to try out a couple more guitars next week.chris

LOL
Dude, rule #1 when you go guitar shopping is to leave the wife/girlfriend at home unless they play too!
she plays....not much or well though

Even if she does play, still leave her at home.
Look at it this way.
You wear shoes. But do you really wanna go Shoe shopping with your girl? Do you wanna look at shoes with her For five hours? Or Do you want to leave after 15 minutes?
I think the answer is obvious. Leave the Woman at home. Girls at a guitar shop = A drag. (even if they do play)

As the owner of a Schecter 006 Deluxe (same as the Omen but different body shape and 22 frets), I'll say that it doesn't even need new tuners. I threw in a set of Duncans, changed the pots, gave it a good setup, and it plays as well as any sub-$1000 guitar I've ever played. The stock tuners are every bit as good as any Grovers I've used and better than Gotohs.

Totally.
My ex-fiance played and was pretty good about my stopping in random guitar shops...she'd noodle around amp; ask the guys questions so they'd leave ME alone! LOL IF she got bored she'd head outside and shop somewhere else...but chicks like her are rare.
For any price range you choose, I doubt you'll go wrong with Schecter. They pretty much lead the league in good, affordable guitars. That PRS SE line is great bang for buck, too. I'm a fan of P90s and am really jonesing on a decent P90 guitar. That PRS seems to fit the bill.
It's up in the air for me, between those two lines.
If my H-207 hadn't blown away all the other guitars in the guitar center when I got it, I might've gotten a 006 deluxe, but more likely the DXMG since the fretboard is just more quot;me.quot;
