I'll try this post again since my last one had enough typos that made it hard to understand.
I tried something new, I like it, so I thought I'd pass it on....
On a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb 50 watt combo, try using just the gain and the master out settings only (I like gain about 12 o'clock and master out to 11:00 o'clock) and set the treble to off, the bass to off and set the mid to just barely used (I like 8 o'clock). These setting can be used in the clean channel or the dirty channel.
This creates a Fender-like cleaness, with a nice hollowness, with the crunch of a Boogie (when in the dirty channel). It's pretty cool.
Anyone else try something like this?
I play a Heritage H-157 with a Seth-Lover neck and 59 bridge through the Rectoverb with these settings and I can go from clean and defined to crunch monster (when I begin to dial-in the other treble, mid, and base, and more gain). Wondering if anyone else has tired something similar?
Thanks.
My gain channel settings are currently Vintage Mode, Gain 11 o'clock, Treble 11, Mid 9, Bass turned all the way down, Presence between 8 and 9, Reverb 8, Master 12.
Clean channel is Clean, Gain 11 o'clock, Treble 2, Mid 2, Bass just past 12, Presence between 8 and 9, Reverb 8, Master 11.
These are the settings that I'm using with my Hamer Daytona (Classic Stacks).
I've found that because the amp was really designed for a different type of tone than the ones that I use, I've come up with what would seem to be some really strange settings, certainly not the normal settings that I would use on another amp.
Right now?
Channel 1 (Fat)
Gain: 10:00 - 14:00
Treb: 13:00
Mids: 08:00 - 13:00 (generally 11:00)
Bass: 10:00
Pres: 10:00 - 13:00 (generally 13:00)
Mast: 12:00
Channel 2 (Modern)
Gain: 10:00 - 13:00
Treb: 13:00
Mids: 13:15
Bass: 09:30
Pres: 13:00
Mast: 13:00
Output - Master: 13:00
Output - Solo: 15:00
I generally don't touch the tone knobs on channel 2, but I'm always flipping between vintage (solos) and modern (rhythm). I also like to use raw with the gain at noon or higher for a lower gain, yet very fat rhythm/lead tone.
On the clean channel, I'm usually in Fat (MkI voicing) and I ride the gain and mids to alter how smooth and/or compressed my quot;cleanquot; tone is. I'll also run the gain up quite high and boost the mids up for an old school grind tone.
I find the trick to getting the best tones out of this amp is to learn how to ride your guitar's volume and tone knobs....the amp really is quite responcive to your volume, and will give up many sweet tones you'd never find if you always left your axe on 10.
