Hell all!

I have been through a lot of pickups in my PRS McCarty, but no Duncans! I think it is stime to change. I have tried a variety of pickups including some boutique pickups and now I want some pickups that will kick some butt.....as I have been trying lower output pickups. Who am I kidding, I play heavy music from classic rock to modern metal and I like thickness and sustain as long as I can still get good clarity and good cleans. Any thoughts guys? I can't afford the boutique guys and feel I may be able to get it done with Duncans.

The guitar is mahogany/maple top and rosewood fretbaord. She is a warm guitar!

Thanks for the help! I'll use the advice and get the pickup...
Feel free to toss out other ideas from other companies such as Rios or Dimarzios....

Thanks!

Duncan Custom
Duncan Distortion

I had both of those in a Dean Czech Caddy, that guitar was very similiar wood/size wise to a PRS and both pickups sounded great. The Dimarzio Super Distortion is another great pickup for that style guitar, it is not very modern sounding though.

Custom

Interesting guys! Does it split well? How about the ceramic magnet...you guys think it effects it and makes it less musical or warm?

Both the Custom and the Distortion have ceramics and the clean tone is a bit cool, I have never split either one but I do not think it would get warmer. The only higher output pickup I have split is the Custom Custom and it sounded great, warm and musical. That was in a strat body so I imagine it would be even warmer in a mahogany body set neck guitar. If you do not need a tight prominant low end the Custom Custom might be the ticket.

Haven't you tried a C-5 in it yet? I think the 59, C-5, or Custom would be good choices.

custom = good

custom split = not as good.

The JB is a pretty rockin pickup, though I like it a bit more in an alder bodied guitar than a mahogony. Split it sounds great as well.

I know a guy who has the C-5/59 and loves it. He is on this forum - JLagrassa as well as gearjonesr so maybe I'll go with the proven. I thik i am also getting another C-5 for my LP. I do remember loving that pickup the few times I gigges with it. The Custom maybe will go in my CE-22 assuming I can figure out the magnet flipping thing for the 5 way switch!

Duncans sound samples while not great provide a constant so I wish they had C-5 samples.

I had a WCR Fillmore with thick punch. How's the punch on the Custom?

I guess the JB or C-5 may work better if I need splits.
