Man, I've been lookin at Les Pauls all day long it seems. I'm just a freakin junkie I reckon. I have a really really strong feeling that there will be a couple more new ones around my house in the next few months.

I love Les Pauls! I'm back in strat mode right now, since I've got Surfers in 1 and handwound 63's by Chubtone in my other.
The longer you're in the guitar world, the easier it is to see why most good guitar players go to their grave with LP's, Strats, and Teles.

I just want to play them a while longer. The new one needs a tonepros ABR TOM at some point, but I'm going to leave it stock for a while. Burstbuckers 1 and 2 in there I believe, but I don't know that for a fact yet.
I can tell you which one smells the best! New nitro is the best.

gorgeous group shot you got there scott ... enjoy and play in good health, friend ... everytime i see that see-through reddish color of the back of a les paul, i get a chubby, i swear .. that is just the hands-down coolest color for the back of a guitar

r=reissue of a certain year. Each year will have different specs. 58 RI=thicker necks and different sunbursts than 59 RI. 54 RI=goldtop, wrap around bridge/tail, p90s. I think you get the idea....
I can only say WOW. Those are so beautiful. Maybe one day I can afford one of those. I have to learn how to play better first so I can justify it.

All three of them have very similar necks to be frank. The 58 is a tiny bit fatter, but not that much at all. From what I've heard/read, each guitar varies a bit even in the same model, same year.
The 52 had the trapeze bridge, goldtop, P90s
The 54 had the wrap tail piece, goldtop, P90's
THe 54 Oxblood is the wrap around tail piece, Oxblood color and humbuckers. It's a special order and I think it's based on a 54 that was modded (jeff beck?)
The 56 had the Goldtop, but was the first year to use a TuneOMatic bridge, P90s.
The 57 was pretty much the 56, but the first year to use seth's humbuckers, Goldtop.
The 58 had humbuckers, TOM, and was the first to use a burst paint job. Many of them were quot;plaintopsquot;, a few had some figuring in the maple.
The 59 had humbuckers, TOM and now featured some outstanding tops, neck got a bit smaller, but not by much.
The 60 had a slimmer necks, TOM, hummers, and nice burst tops.
So, the Reissue models are all using the long neck tenon like they did back in the 50's. They try to hold true to the originals, but from what I've read, the originals varied from guitar to guitar, so these reissues are sort of the average of what they encountered when Gibson went backa nd looked for old ones, taking the best features and making the reissue.
Some of the goldtop models are offered in small runs with black paint.
There were guys with 56 and 57 Goldtops that wanted those cool burst paint jobs and they had their finishes stripped and refinished.
The 57 that I have and the one that ledzepp29 has are something that emulates those guys that stripped off their goldtop finihses and went with a burst. The center seam, book matching isn't really done with opaque color Les Pauls. So, these refins often had seams that were in weird places.
Daves and Wildwood commissioned the Custom Shop in 2004 to take some of their regular 57 Goldtop Reissues and asked them to just spray a burst finish to emulate these old refinished models. there aren't that many of them. they are pretty unique and I wonder if they'll get any more for 2005 since Gibson is being such aholes to those smaller dealers (won't be any from Daves as Daves is dropping Gibson all together).
