Hi all,
tested a cheapo in-ear monitoring set for my top-40 band yesterday. At first the overall sound was very muddy which we achieved to correct with an equalizer, but the guitar always sounded terrible.
I played a Strat style though some stompboxes, Hamp;K Tubeman II and with recording output directly into mixer. The front-sound is ok with this setup, but in the monitor it sounds like guitar played into mixer without speaker emulator. Very thin, screechy and sterile.

I just heard the clip on Musiciansfriend and WOW... With my full shred I think I'll love the tone through the AOR (which unfortunately I have yet to get But wednesday I should have it)
I was thinking of also using that pedal as another channel. I could get a cheap boost (I'll build a microamp) and also use the ProCo Rat 2... Damn it seems really sweet. Has anyone got experience with it? Who can tell me more about it?
And how about the Maxon pedal? It looks like a tube screamer but has some nice high gain tones in there it seems.
I may not buy them for a while, but I'm curious about these two.

Just out of curiosity... do the nickel or brass covers on the HB pups make a sound difference, or are they just for looks? If they do make a sound difference... what is it?
Depends on who you talk to. Most quality nickel covers do not affect the sound at all. If they do, the will affect the treble a little (less treble), but again, very little. Most folks would be hard pressed to hear the difference, IMO.
I'm with Jeff on this one. The Brass covers affect the pup adversely from some of the stuff I've read. Seth Lover went with the German silver (nickel silber) because it didn't bother the magnetic field. Some people think it helps further buck the hum.

Howdy people,
I've got a 65 Mustang (stock) and a pair of JB junior - little 59 p'ups I got off ebay that have been sitting around. Does anyone recommend this combo? They were originally meant to go on a different guitar, but that fell through. Now I'm tempted to throw em in to see what they'll do to my Mustang. If so, I was thinking JB in the bridge, and little 59 in the neck.... I hope someone knows about this setup!!
I guess you mean a 65 Mustang Reissue... Otherwise you'll be ruining a precious vintage axe!!!

I just got a very cool mid 60s Multivox bass combo. Amp has tons of promise, but has a new EF86 in it that is buzzy. I know the old ones are spendy, but it is worth it to find one. I really like a lot of what that tube does. Any recomendations? Or better yet, anyone have an extra they might sell?
I have an amprex in my route 66 and it works great. I haven't tried any other NOS ef86's but i also hear nice things about phillips
i hear you can get some new ones but they aren't always reliable

What do you think is a fair price for a used (assume good condition) Roland Jazz Chorus 120?
I ask because a buddy saw one at a pawn shop, and I thought it would be a good option for amplifying my PODxt since they are so squeaky clean.
Also, if anyone owns one (or a similar model), please chime in and let me know what it's like. I love the model on my POD ... Oh, and yes, I am aware of the irony of modelling a JC 120, and amplifying it with a JC 120

yup, lucky number 13 and it's oh so fitting for the guitar...2001 Fender Iron Maiden signature strat in like new condition! i've wanted one since '01 when they came out and the only year they made them but i never found a clean one for sale at a good price. before i found this one i almost bought one at a dealer for more money and it has some buckle rash...then i found this flawless one for $300 less than that other dealer wanted so i dove on it! the only thing i'm a bit upset about is the previous owner changed the pickguard from mirror to black mother of pearl but that's ok, i already ordered a new mirror guard to replace this on and bring it back to it's killer stock glory (yeah, odd for me...stock hehe). anyway, enough babble here she is....and man does it play nice!!-Mike
Sweet! Im glad you found this one! You're right though...it looks funny with that guardplate, I almost got that colour for my JV Strat (which is also black/maple), and it's cool, but Im glad I went with tortoise. That thing is gonna look sweet with the mirror guard on it!
That's great. Let me know how you like your first basswood guitar.

Hi gang,
I got an old Yamaha bass with SD P-bass pickups that has a little switch bank with 2 dipswitches. Can anyone tell me what are these for? Thanks.
switch 1 shifts the coil resonance, the resonance moves downward from 22 KHz to 6.4 KHz

What is the best way of reducing single-coil hum other than getting hum-cancelling pickups?
Shielding the guitar.
Shielding and star grounding will help a lot...check out www.guitarnuts.com.

Ok I'm in a bit of a pickle here.
Some guy i know is offering me a very slightly used Pearly Gates bridge pickup for a rediculiously low price. But the problem is I've had my eye on a Alnico 2 Pro.
The APH-1 has exaclty everything i want in a bridge bucker. I like some of the aspects of the PGb but from what I hear it lacks much bass and sounds thin. Now i want a nice smooth thick tone that the APH delivers, but the offer is hard to refuse.

Everyone's got their favorite, and I have mine. Old, British, and really LOUD. And pretty darn small, too. The name plate may not begin with an quot;Mquot;, but anyone who don't like this little monster just hasn't played through one.
'82 or '83 Hiwatt SA112OL, 50 watt. More gain than the typical Hiwatt and one of the last made in Britain. JJ EL34L power tubes, (4) Mullard 12AX7 preamp tubes. Eminence Delta Pro 12quot; speaker just POURS out the tone !!!
HiWatt's rock!

It looks like I'm probably going to get an epiphone les paul custom lefty. Most people are telling me I probably won't like the stock pickups that much. By doing my research on the SD site, I've pretty much narrowed down my choice of pickups as some combination of a JB, Invader, Custom, or Custom Cumsom. I play hard rock. Everything from meat and potatoes power chord stuff to atmospheric, long sustain stuff. I need something versatile... any recommendations?
my BIG question is -- what makes a good neck pickup as opposed to a bridge one? I'm reading some things that say quot;this is best in the bridge position...quot; What determines what's goood for what?
