Is it practical to fix sloppy workmanship by removing the finish off of a cheep maple neck, then drying it out at that point?

saving cheep necks
My understanding that cheep necks might twist and warp due to not being properly dried out before having a finish applied to them.

Traynor YCV50Blue first impressions-f#%#in' A!
This thing kicks a##! UPS rumbled up today. The blue is darker than the pictures I've seen - I like it. The first thing you notice-or I should say not notice is any hiss or hum. Extremely quiet. I'll use the YCV80 for comparison because I had that amp for about a year. This one is 'British' voiced with 2 EL34's. The YCV80 came stock with Sovteks which I immediately replaced with JJ's. However the YCV50 has Electro-Harmonix EL34EH's which I think are an upgrade-you tube guys will have to confirm that.
Also, this one comes stock with a Vintage 30. It's very smooth and really makes one aware of deficiencies in one's equipment. My Strat sounds great but my Samick really shows its need for upgrades through this amp-I really notice how bad the tuners are (won't stay in tune) and how the stock pups are lacking. Gives me more reason to get a Hamer! The footswitchable boost is very useable giving not only a gain boost but also a very noticeable decibel boost. The boost on the YCV80 tended to get muddy with the gain higher. This YCV50 remains very definable with the boost on and the gain maxed.
Traynor has done a great job with this new model and I gotta go and play some more!

Neck single for kramer?
I got my kramer focus 3000 last week(alder body, ofr) , with a duncan custom in the bridge.
I would like to replace the stock single in the neck position, but with what?
I want a single coil sound, but still kinda warm, think Yngwie or something...
Noiseless would be nice, but it doesn´t matter me to much if it´s not either.
And by the way i might replace the custom with a jb, but i´m not sure yet.

Fret leveling
In a recent thread I started about when to replace frets, Lew mentioned levelling frets before replecing them. What is this and can I do it myself?
Thanks
If you want to invest the $$$$ in the right tools to do it properly and also learn how to do it. Leveling is a procedure where all of the frets are leveled to the same height above the fretboard and all of the frets are on an even plane.

How can you tell if a tube is bad?
I pulled my GA-30 out of the closet for the first time in awhile, and I plug it in, plug the guitar in, give the tubes time to heat up, start getting hum, I'm just thinking quot;Ok, it's a really old amp, cant be perfectquot;. So I start to strum and I got nothin. Tried all the other inputs (there's 3 for instruments and 1 for a microphone) and I still got nothing. I'm not sure if it's the tubes, since all the bigger ones lit up (2 brighter than the other, but the other did light up) or if all the inputs went bad (which I seriously doubt, I mean, all of 'em?). So, if you guys could help me out, that'd be great. Also, what are the big tubes called and what are the little tubes called? Sorry for my ignorance on tube amps, but I just got this one not too long ago and havnt learned much about tube amps yet
edited to say that I had this amp repaired by a local guy who owns an amp repair company called Scrapyard Amps. He replaced alot of the caps, the big tubes, and installed a 3-prong plug.
The best test usually is a known good substitute for the tube you think is bad....Providing you didn't take out a resistor on the output tube...This could ruin the known good tube also?

Please help with wiring question.
I just bought a Little '59 for Strat SL59-1b for the bridge of my Highway One Strat. The Wiring diagram is a little vague. I understand all the solder connections except the Red and White as I understand it I need to solder them together and insulate them quot;they do not get connected to anything but each otherquot;? Also any gotcha’s
Does anyone have suggestions on alternate wiring schemes and what it will accomplish?

. FS: Black Duncan Jazz N, DD, TB-4 (Trade for 81?)
Alright guys, need to sell these.
Black Jazz Neck. Screw holes slightly enlarged, works fine the screws that came with it on my RR-1, though. I'll include those. Plenty of lead length.
Black Standard Spaced DD bridge. In good condition, plenty of lead. I also have an A5 magnet I could swap in it, so if you want an SH-4 instead, let me know.

JB with Alnico 2 or 3
Has anyone ever put an Alnico 2 or 3 in a JB? I'm attracted to the sound signature of the JB, with a lot of harmonics, but not TOO hot, and I'd like to try and see if I could tame the highs and get the mids sweeter and less harsh with an Alnico 3.
Anyone ever tried this? Is it worth it? Probably will get a standard JB before I go about wrecking a JBJ that way.
Thanks!

Pick-ups for Ibanez RG 160 B
Any suggestions on what type of pick-ups I should get to put into a Ibanez RG 160. I play basic bar chords mostly, and often with heavy fuzz. I play in a contemporary Christian ROCK band and I have recently switched from bass to Rythm guitar so I am still learning chords. I like the deep metal/distorted sound. Thanks.
I tried to look up the RG 160 on the Ibanez zite and only found 150s and 170s so Im not exactly sure if you have an h/s/h or h/h guitar and this makes a difference. I'd suggest a JB, Dime or Distortion in the bridge and a four conductor 59 in the neck. If you have a single coil in the middle and want to keep the switching stock you'll need a top south SD single coil to keep everything hum cancelling and phased correctly.
With my RG 550 I went with a JB in the bridge, a JB jr in the middle and a 59 in the neck and I changed the wiring so that the bridge and neck pickups don't split.
