Hi all... I am back!
I recently shared workbook, and have noticed 2 problems. I can not insert
any symbols, nor can I use the shortcut I added to my toolbar to delete a
selected row or column. I can delete the column or row by going into
Editgt;delete. Insert Symbol is always greyed out.
If I start a new workbook, these 2 features work as expected.

Any ideas???

Thanks again!
John

I know that I lost functionality in a shared workbook in the past. Have you
tried quot;unsharingquot; the workbook to see if the functionality returns?

All kinds of weird crap seems to happen if you share a workbook. (BTW - no
offense intended for those who think Excel is totally crapless - we are all
adults here, yes?). I shared a worksheet - and lo and behold, I can't merge
cells!!! Unsharing the workbook is the only work around I found.

IT WOULD BE NICE if the microserfs could create a functional search engine
(their quot;Helpquot; alogrithm stinks beyond words), and it would be nice if they
could admit failure - you know - you can't merge cells in a shared workbook;
You have only 16 colors to choose from for cell or text color in Excel, you
CAN'T have shadows or effects, or 2 colors around cells... BTW, with
millions of colors to choose from, you'd think they would have nicer ones...

so much for my mini-rant.

Best of luck.

Hi Barb...
Unsharing the notebook did fix both problems.
Anyone have any suggestions?

OR:

is there a way other than sharing a notebook (it is the NOTEBOOK, not the
SPREADSHEET that is shared, isn't it?) to have it open by 2 people at once?

Thanks
JJ

Far from being an expert on sharing, a few months ago I had to purge
some tabs from shared workbooks, and the Delete option was greyed out.
I had to unshare the workbooks before I could Delete the tabs, then set
the workbooks to shared again.

I assume there are certain tasks that you can't perform on a shared
workbook, since the results could be unpredictable if others were using
them. I wasn't able to find a definitive list of tasks that are
affected by this, but I guess you will have to be prepared to Unshare /
Share when changing the format of a workbook.Well, the funny thing is that I can delete a row or column via Editgt;Delete.
It is the shortcut to this command that I placed in my custom toolbar that is
greyed out. It is odd because if I can not do it from my toolbar, I should
not be able to do it from the menu.
The symbols issue is also very odd. Before I shared the workbook, I inserted
some Winding symbols and they are still there. The issue is I can not add any.

Hmmm...
No one else have an idea how to get around this problem? It is really
annoying!

TIA...
