I have encountered a problem. Workbook quot;Aquot; contains several columns of
information, some of which is sensitive, and therefore of limited
access. There are several columns of information, which is
periodically updated. Workbooks quot;Bquot; and quot;Cquot; each contain some of the
information from Workbook quot;Aquot;, in a limited form (i.e. of 20 columns in
quot;Aquot;, quot;Bquot; might contain 4 columns, and quot;Cquot; might contain 5 different
columns).
Two of the columns in quot;Aquot; (one of each ends up in quot;Bquot; and quot;Cquot;) consists
of hyperlinks to documents that reside on a different server within the
organization, such that when you click the link, the document opens.
For the sake of this discusssion, let's say that these documents live a
quot;\\OtherServer\Main\Sub1\SubSub1\file1quot; and
quot;\\OtherServer\Main\Sub2\SubSub2\file2quot;. So the hyper link would be to
that location. When new data comes in, it is updated in Workbook quot;Aquot;
manually. Then the relevant parts from quot;Aquot; are copied and pasted into
quot;Bquot; and quot;Cquot;.
Here's where the problem arises. When copying
quot;\\OtherServer\Main\Sub1\SubSub1\file1quot; from quot;Aquot; to quot;Bquot;, what ends up
in quot;Bquot; is quot;\\OtherServer\Main\Sub1\Main\Sub1\SubSub1\fil e1quot;, and when
someone clicks the link, it errors, since obviously that file doesn't
exist. It happens every time a copy and paste is performed, and it
always duplicates the 2nd and 3rd levels of the path: i.e. quot;\Main\Sub2quot;
becomes quot;\Main\Sub2\Main\Sub2quot;.
quot;Aquot;, quot;Bquot; and quot;Cquot; all reside within the same folder, but it is different
than the folder where the linked files are. I don't think that has
anything to do with it, but not sure.
