I was thinking maybe a combination of the V30 and the G12H-30 in the open back 2x12 cabinet, but have the cabinet wired for stereo...Both speakers at 8 ohms a piece? What are you guy's thoughts on the Avatar stuff? Isn't it Jumpmarine that has one of these already? Give me some scoop on this and how it sounds in the mids and lows....???
quot;This is the Great looking and Great sounding G212H Custom cab which is available with your choice of black or blond tolex covering, deluxe fabric grills, closed back or open back design, and with many different speaker choices and combinations. The G212H Custom cab is easy and portable and goes great with combo amps, heads and rack systems. Check out the Eminence or the Celestion specs, descriptions and sound samples to help you decide which are the best speakers for your personal requirements. The best is the G212H cab with two Celestion Alnico Blues..$649. One Alnico Blue and one G12H30 is also very sweet at $499. Both of those two cabs are favorites with guys with high end tube amps like the THD amps. Lately, the popular thing in many of the tone chat rooms, has been to do combos of speakers...and the most popular is to have one G12H30 and one V30...which is the best of both tone worlds...please see the G212H SPECIAL page. You are welcome to do any combo of speakers. The tone distinction between open/closed back is that you get a more focused tone and more bottom end in a closed back cab where an open back cab lets the mids and highs from the back of the speaker cones out into the room giving more of a larger spatial quality. The cab is constructed of high quality 3/4 inch voidless 11 PLY Baltic Birch plywood. The cab is built with rabbett and dado interlocking side joints for extreme strength. It is available with either a Vintage Wheat fabric grill, Deluxe Vintage Fender cloth grill, Oxblood grill or Black grill. It has two 1/4 inch in/out jacks (for daisy chaining with another speaker cab) mounted on the steel input panel. Available in ONE of the following configurations: 4 ohm mono, 8 ohm mono, 16 ohm mono, 8 ohm stereo, and 16 ohm stereo. It has protective nickel corners, and large recessed steel bar handles. The dimensions are 21quot; H x 28.5quot; W x 12 1/2quot; D. Weight is approximately 45-55 lbs depending on speakers. One year warranty and 14 day return policyquot;
You're kidding me? No Avatar Cabinet users on the forums?
I have an Avatar cab with that speaker pair, and I absolutely love it. Of course it's not going to compare to a THD or Earcandy cab, but it's not in that price bracket either. Excellent cabs for the $$$.
As for the V30/G12H30 combo, it's pretty much a quot;best of both worldsquot; setup. The V30 has great highs and upper mids, while the G12 is a bit smoother in those two while having better low-mid and bass response. With the pairing of the two you get excellent coverage across the whole spectrum. I believe Lew likes this setup too, maybe he'll chime in at some point.
I'm sure there are some users around
everyone seems to like them
I have a Hellatone 30 on order
you could get the 30/ 60 combo, and they would sound broken in
maybe ask Dave @ Avatar about that
Very cool guys....I Knew you wouldn't let me down....Fret Fire thanks for posting....How do your clean tones sound with both Celestion speakers?
John
great cabs. I think it will do you fine. You can also get the closed back for it. then you would have the closed and open backs for it. Some may not agree, but I think their cabs are just as good as any other 2x12, except maybe a bogner. Their wood quality is better than many cabs out there. they use dado or finger joint's. I don't see were they are reallly cutting any corners.

JohnReally nice actually, I'm using a Mesa Rectoverb (50 watt single rectifier w/ reverb), so the cleans are very Fender Blackface-y. Plenty of sparkle and chime, without being harsh or gritty (like I want to imagine a pair of V30s being for some reason).
The cab yields PLENTY of bass response without getting flubby, even when doing chugga-chugga stuff with the Schecter.
It's times like this that I wish I had a mic

They don't use any kind of port or baffle system, like some higher end cabs do, but I have no problem with that.
FretFire....Is your cabinet open or closed back? It would be cool to have the option of being able to use the cab either way by having an open or closed back piece...
John
I've got an avatar 212 with alnico 122s in it for my silvertone. I absolutely love my cab. They were out of the open backs when I bought mine, so I got a closed back. You can also order an extra open back and have best of both worlds. I've just pulled my back of completely because I like the openness better than the focused hit of the closed back.
I have the Avatar cab with the Vintage 30 and the G12H30. It's a very well made cabinet, with good quality wood. I haven't really used it with my Valvetronix combo because I don't like the way it mixes with the combos speaker on the Valvetronix. I can't disable the speaker on the Valvetronix and it doesn't mix well. But it sounds fine with my Univalve and Mini Cat.

My cab is open-back.
I got an avatar 2x12 cab on ebayfor about 120 bucks with both the open and closed back. Got some eminence Wizards in it now and it rocks. very clear and punchy, and yet smooth. much better then the celestion stock speaker in my ashdown combo.
Now hurry up and get my rectoverb here so i can try it out (oohhhh, better rewire teh cab before i forget and plug in and it goes by by)
I have an Avatar 2x10 and 2x12 stack for my bass amp. It rocks. I only wish they offered tolex and different grilles for the bass amps instead of carpet. They sound great, Price is excellent.
Hey John, my buddy Keith is the one with the Avatar cab. I've got a closed back Crate vintage club series 2x12 loaded with Eminence Swamp Thang and Texas Heat. The avatar is a v30 loaded 2x12, 1/3 open back cab. It's a great cab, good construction and price. He's been using it as an extension for his Trademark 120 with great results. He just got himself an AD120VTX combo off ebay yesterday and I'll post his reviews as well as those of my 60 mono head with both cabs. Stay tuned.....
I bought two cabs and a bunch of speakers from Avatar. Excellent product and REALLY excellent customer service. His broken in hellatone's are to die for man, really. Made my Blue Voodoo sound CLASSIC. I had the blonde 2x12 with the v30 amp; g12h30 and it sounded so good I sold it and bought the 4x12 version when I needed that. Can't beat his price on speakers.

Dave at Avatar wrote me back and told me to go with the 2x12 loaded with 2 Vintage 30s for clean and gained classic rock and blues tones with my Valvetronix...He didn't say to go with open or closed back though? I'd love to be able to do both,so I can see what works better for me...I really thought he was going to recommend the V30/G12H-30 but that wasn't his suggestion after I was very specific with what I wanted...Do you guys agree? I mean my V30 loaded Marshall 4x12 cab sounds heavenly, but it's too big and heavy these days...I use it at home and I want to keep it..I hate selling stuff..

Yes...Going with the broken in speakers would be even better for sure...Curly mentioned those to me earlier...Maybe the set of V30s would give me more lows and mids and that's why Dave recommends 2 V30s in my application?
