I just relized a friend of mine who I have only heard play maybe 5 times for a very brief time each time, uses a Dimarzio Evolution and he sounds amazing.

What are your thoughts on this pickup?

How does it compare to a Dimarzio Super Distortion? (which I used in a guitar and really like but sold the guitar.)

They are both around 14K output and use ceramic magnets

Those two are very different pickups.

Although they are the relatively the same in output the Super Distortion is dark and chunky...very fat sounding...will beef up almost any guitar. Fairly big on the mids and bottom end.

On the other hand the Evolution is brighter and extremely tight. It's got alot of upper mids and will really give you an aggressive feel as it's extremely clear and good at showing any detail of your playing.

So the Evolution is kind of like the opposite of the Super Distortion then?

I wouldn't necessarily opposite but different for sure....they are the same in that they are both relatively high output...but tonewise...yeah they could be opposite somewhat.

No problem...I've used them both and you couldn't go wrong with either just they serve different purposes.

I hated my Evolution when it was in a floating-whammy Ibanez, and swear by it in my Charvel stop-tail.

It's tight as hell, without being overly bright......IN A HARD-TAIL guitar!

It's only like 13.4k, so it doesn't get overly muddy.
