Hey guys, what are your opinions on the AVT series? I'd more than likely look at the higher end models/heads and not combos. Does the one tube make difference? Do they suck stock, what about with pedals. Any input would be great. Thanks guys...

AVT= annoying various trash. They sound like piss. Listen man, you can get the same kind of hybrid amp which is Hughes and Kettner Attax series that sounds a MILLION times better and is about 2 or 300 on ebay. Trust me man, just because it says marshall doesn't mean it's good.

I had a AVT 50 combo and loved it. If you want a combo it was sweet, it had a foot switch for the two channels. you could also plug it into a larger cabinet, if you wanted. I had little room for a full or half stack and went with this.

I love it. As for the one tube it makes a night and day difference between the MG series and AVT series.

I've heard that the avt50 is the best-sounding one among the valvestates. But i think you would benefit more from it if you will replace the stock elctro-harmonix 12ax7 tube with a eurotube 12ax7s. That thing can be had for $7, i think. It cleared up the gain channel of my avt50. Before, i couldn't turn the gain past 1 o'clock because it turns muddy. But now even if i max out the gain settings, i still retain clarity.

I never really got a chance to try out the AVT, but I REALLY don't like the MG. Horrible, fizzy, grainy crunch sound.

The AVT series has a high failure rate. My buddy quit selling Marshalls in his store over AVT and MG series, because their quality issues.

I prefer the sound of MGs over AVTs, but i would rather save up for something better. Still, my MG has served me well for gigs and home practise if your not after amazing tone.

Does the tube in the AVT need to be replaced? I've had mine for 2 years and I haven't replaced it...maybe that'll make a big difference...

POS's in my opinion. High failure rate, don't sound all that great either. I'd much prefer one of the new Vox Valvetronix amps, and I'm a Marshall guy through and through.

dont have the avt, but my 100 watt MG head is crap. It sits in the basement, all alone in the dark. It turned me off of ss Marshalls entirely

do you mean it getts muddy or just a lot of overdrive with the stock tubes?

Depends how often you play it. With very regular use (ie. gigging several times a week) you'll need to change the valves after 6 months or so... Ask some of the knowledgable folk in here about it, on a new thread - they'll be able to tell you what tubes are good to use, as well.

thats not really the case with the AVT, as its only a preamp valve, these need replacing much mroe rarely than the power amp valves, heavy use, and it should last 3 years or more.

kommerzbassist, yes it really gets muddy with the stock EH tubes. I was also able to test the EH against the eurotubes in a chandler tube overdrive unit and again, it showed that the eurotubes has more clarity which would enable to get more out of your gain knob.
