How do I know which full sized Duncan humbuckers are F (Fender) spaced?
Is it only the trembuckers?
Yes. The Trembuckers are designed to be spaced for a Fender bridge. That said, there are a lot of Fender bridges out there with different spacings, so it's a crap shoot in some ways.
What pickup(s) are you looking at specifically, and what guitar is it going into?
Well... I may soon have a Strat with a vintage style bridge and a body that accepts a full sized humbucker. So I'm entertaining the idea of loading it with something like a hot PAF. I don't go in much for the insanely overwound pickups and I've not yet heard a small humbucker (or noiseless) that I much liked.
Got any recommendations?
I think he meant the Paralell Axis Trembuckers, but asked for all Trembuckers.
So here is the answer:
ALL Duncan Humbuckers are availabe as Trembuckers, they simply are then called TB-1, TB-4, etc...
Except the Invader and the Dimebucker, which don't need a wider spacing.
But the look regulars and don't have the design of the PATB's.
OK, so looking at the specs, if I wanted something like a '59 Model, the Blues Trembucker is pretty darn close anyway.
I'm not finding the specs on the PA models. Are they located somewhere different than the rest of the pickup specs?
I'm not sure if you understood my last post, or if i did understood you wrong. Did you ask for quot;F-spacedquot; trembuckers, or did you askedwhich humbuckers have the PATB-Design?
If you want a 59 quot;f-spacedquot; as a trembucker get the TB-1.
Or do you mean a PAF in the PATB-design?
That would be the Blues Trembucker (PATB-3), but that's NOT the same as the TB-1 59.
Did you ask for quot;F-spacedquot; trembuckers
My original question was which pickups were F-spaced. It was my impression that only certain models were made that way.
My second question was where to find specs on the PA models. They aren't listed on the spec page.
But now I'm confused because you're saying that a quot;Blues Trembuckerquot; (which has the design that I think I would like best) is a Parallel Axis model?
Hopefully, this will help: quot;trembuckerquot; is s term for quot;f-spacedquot;. So all trembuckers are f-spaced. Parallel axis pups are the ones with the two small quot;parallelquot; bars for pole pieces. The parallel axis pups specs are listed here. Just scroll down to the quot;humbuckerquot; section, and they're listed as:
Original Trembucker (neck and bridge)
Distortion Trembucker
Blues Trembucker
Hope this helps.
Thanks, but that's where I looked before. I see the three Trembuckers but I don't see anything about parallel axis models there. Am I missing something?
I think what I would want is shown on that page as a Blues Trembucker. It looks similar to a '59 Model but with F spacing.
The three that I listed are parallel axis models. Go here, scroll down to each model, then click on quot;seequot; or quot;dimensionsquot; under each pup name to see what they look like.
OK, so a Blues Trembucker *IS* a PA model?
Is it PATB-3?
And a PATB-1 is a parallel axis '59 ???
What if you don't want the Parallel Axis design, just a '59 Trembucker?
Wow, Duncan has got to make this less obscure.

The PATB-models are different pickups than the regular and than the quot;Trembucker spacedquot; Humbuckers.
if you want a '59 as a trembucker, than you have to get the TB-1 instead the SH-1. They are exactly the pickups which the same design, have the same specs, EQ, almost the same look. The trembuckers have just a slightly higher d.c. resistance, which has the reason that need more wire, for the SAME number of coil windings.
The PATB are NOT! another versions of this models!
They are an quot;ownquot; line with different models (low, medium-high, high output)
basically, any dunacn p'up can be used for a trem. just order it with f-spacing. the trembuckers you mentioned are a special type of pickup (parallel axis). these have a space in between the pole pieces, thus negating the need for f-spacing, so they work fine the way they are with trems. but ANY duncan p'up can work witha trem as long as you get it with f spacing.
They say a picture tells a thousand words. If that's true, here's 3,000 words worth of explanation.
This is an SH-1 '59 Model. It is not a Trembucker.
This is the TB59-1b. It is the Trembucker-spaced version of the '59 model. Same basic pickup. Same basic tone. But for wider-spaced bridges. (Also, short-legged bottom plate, four-conductor cable and quot;quot; logo).
This is the PATB-3b Blues Saraceno model. Now you can see the difference between a regular Trembucker and a Parallel Axis Trembucker.
Hopefully, that'll clear up your questions.
Anyway ... you asked for a recommendation for a hot PAF pickup in a Strat. Sounds like you want a Custom (TB-5), a Custom Custom (TB-11) or a Custom 5 (TB-14).
Cool, you guys filled in all the gaps for me. THANKS!
The Parallel Axis seems like a cool enhancement. What's the practical effect of the parallel axis pole pieces?
Better coverage for string bending?
yep! depending on how much lead work you do with the bridge, it can make quite a difference..
and if you listen really, REALLY closely, you can hear the balance of volume across the strings is a bit more.. its not the end of the world if you get the wrong one though!
