My band has just spent the last two weekends recording. Took some time to finally get some decent pics of gear, plus some studio stuff and some nice loaner pieces...
l-r: My PRS Cu22, 57ri strat and 72 tele custom ri, my friend Sam's mid 70s Les Paul Signature semihollow, and a Gretsch Duo Jet and 70s Les Paul Deluxe, both property of studio.
more of the same...
My vibrolux/beerholder.
Blue Angel head, Sam's 60's Ampeg reverberocket and Vibrolux. The majority of the tracks were done with the vibro and blue angel on el84 setting in stereo. The vibro provides the midrange push, and the blue angel tightens up the bottom and gives some sparkle.
My CU22. Note reversed duncan '59 in neck position. Used for afrobeat rhythm parts.

My strat. Aps2s and an antiquity texas hot bridge. Used through Sam's original mutron 3 for super P-funk fart noises. My Keef/Leo Nocentelli 72 custom ri. Used for snarky overdubs.
Sam's LP signature. This got a lot of playtime, was used for all the funk rhythm traks to get an authentic late 60s type of tone. Can't help but think Freddie King when I play this guitar.

Very nice sounding 70s super reverb and rhodes piano. The miso soup of sound.
My good friend and personal ToneYoda Sam and myself. Sam's the one with faces-era Rod Stewart hair.

Man, I wish every day was studio day.

DIG THE PICS!

I have had GAS for a Les Paul Signature since the first time I saw one...it was also a burst and I loved it!

Love the goldtops too. Very cool guitars, less unwieldy than a 335. Good pickups, too.

k, so where are the pics of the vintage studio gear? Vintage pre's? compressors?...

p.s. that semi-hollow looks sweet.

Cool gear.....bet you all had a blast. I would love to have an old Super like the one that is pictured.

I want to hear it now too. Sweet set up.

Cool! sounds like a very analogy session. Bleed can be cool sometimes, amp; add to the warmth. Love to hear some clipz!

Will do as soon as it's mastered. We completed mixes for two tracks, and did basics for another four. Hopefully we'll do vox and overdubs for those over the next couple of months...

whaddaya mean 'Bleed can be cool sometimes'?

BLEED IS THE SOUND! -that and room.

-What are ya, some kind of kenny G fan?

-Honestly, our incredibly competent engineer basically had to forget everything he knew about making a normal sounding record while working with us. There was a very symbolic moment on the first night where he wrote 'rule book' on a piece of paper and tossed it to the ground in front of us.

The session itself was hybrid. Lots of old gear and mikes, done live in a big room, but to pro tools. So we used plugins as well as the sound of the desk and the outboard equipment. We'll also be mastering to tape to get the authentic tape sound, and rolling off a lot of highs, just sos no-one goes mistaking our stuff from some modern-ass recording.

Well, when u ever come into a latency problem that u just can't fix while mixing, u'll see how bleed can be quite uncool. Honestly, even the worst problems just sound quot;livequot; to me most the time.

Your session sounds really cool!

Yo grits, you look just like my dad man, its freaking me out!

Nice studio gear.

Nice studio gear.

If it's any consolation, I was biologically incapable of making you 21 years ago. Just.

oh, amp; analog into Pro Tools is sooooooo where it's at IMO.

Cool pics... I dig that strat... kinda looks like the EJ model. Sounds like a good time.

Awesome pics!
