I recently purchased a Fender Heartfield Talon V 1990 with a floyd rose pro trem.

ive been searching for an alen key that can turn the locknut bolts... with no luck. i tried the alen key from a ibanez edge ii, and i even got the floyd rose kit... which was missing the one i needed :'(

does anyone know where i can get an alen key for this?

Any hardware store.. at least worth a try.

buy a cheap metric/standard set. there'll be one in there that'll fit.

ive just bought both a metric and imperial set and neither of them have the one i need. perhaps ill have to get one made :|

That's odd.. Have you tried the old trick? If you have a key a bit too small, put some thin tape around the yip, so it will fit. This is hard to do, and isn't very reliable, but works if you only have a few screws to adjust.

Fortunately there are no quot;specialquot; tools needed for most guitars and that allen wrench is going to be either a std metric or sae size. Take one of the screws out of the guitar and take it to a retailer with a good selection of tools. I'm positive you'll find the proper tool for that guitar. Use a pair of needle nose pliers if you have to, to loosen the bolt from the nut assembly and wrap the bolt head in with tape to avoid scarring it. Whatever you do, do not use the wrong size key to break it free. If you think getting a wrench is a hassle, replacing one of those bolts can be a pain in the butt if you round out the hex hole.

Hey, whats happening James!

just making crazy divebomb harmonics cos i cant tune this sucker...
damn lock nuts, do you think its cos floyd rose hadnt decided on the 3mm standard in 1990? lol

I wouldn't have the slightest clue about Floyd Roses, dawg.

Original Floyd Rose, Schaller Floyd Rose /FR II, and most lcensed Floyd Rose Trems all use a 2.5 mm allen key for the intonation screw, and a 3mm allen key for the locking nut, trem posts, saddle locks and Baseplate /block screws and Trem arm.

2.5 and 3mm allen keys are a dime a doten at any halfway decent hardware store....

yeah but zerberus... mine doesnt :P
the 3mm is a tad too small for the locknut and the 2.5 is a tad too big for the intonation screw... i think i might have to get one made up

I'd guess that you might have a stripped hex bolt if your allen keys are working.

Ask your old man to help you out on this one.

Interesting... VERY interesting.....

I noticed you quoting the sizes in metric, have you tried measuring in imperial?
Sounds silly I know, but even with Fender pickgaurd screws from domestic are different threading because they're cut in imperial as opposed to offshore which are cut in metric.
If you have dial calipers and can get me the measurement in the next few hours I'll check through our allen keys at the shop and see if we have that one.If we do I'll snailmail it to you.

Just take it out, and get a standard 3mm replacement .

That´s about the only thing I can think of as well, is that for some reason you have a system that WASN´T made outside the USA...HMMM, waitasec, I think I´ve got it: Is it a KAHLER Spyder by any chance? That would explain it....I think my Roadie Rench has a different Allen key on there for the Kahler Nut-locks as well....

Kahlers are Made in USA, where Imperial measurements still dominate for the most part

And BTW, the new Kahler website is finally UP : UPS, Nope, it´s still a Floyd Rose PRO, LOL....I think I was out too long last night

news just in
i got a $22 metrical one... guarenteed for life lol
its a... 9/64 or something... only one at the shop
there were like 10 sets to chose from... lucky i found this one

just put some new strings on... tuning is a ***** eh?
635241 is the order im tuning in... so far its tuned to c, have to keep rebalencing the bridge, another hour or so and itll be on e

Good to hear, bro. Soon we'll be over at Smithys house so I can give it a try, hehe.

Interesting, that´ßs 3.57 mm, definitely NOT a stadard size...

But as long as it works :GREAT

You may want to look into getting different (new) screws for the nut, assuming the h´threads are the same....I´m starting to get really hooked on quot;dime-screwsquot;, they have a thick slot in them that can be turned w/ a coin instead of an allen key

hey thats a good idea
ive got some standard ones laying around, but i dunno if im gunna put them in... i dont think the thread is the same size, do you think this tremelo is before floyd rose decided to make the 3mm standard? its made 1987-1990 im not sure of the year, but its somewhere between there.
