Hey all,
Can anyone tell me what the difference in the standard wizard necks and the prestige wizards is? I know that more finishing work is supposed to have gone into the prestige neck but how does it really feel in comparison? Is it that much better?
Also just out of curiosity, it seems that in general Ibanez stuff seems (as with all other brands) has its champions and detracters, those who like it and those who don't, but with Ibanez it seems that those who don't like the guitars...REALLY don't like them, hence names like quot;ibeenhadquot; and the like. lol.
What about them is really THAT bad? I have owned a couple and currently have one as a secondy guitar, they have all been hard-tails so I haven't had any expereince with the edge trem but heck for a mid priced guitar they dont seem that bad...change the pickups, get a good set-up and you're good to go.
There is an enormous difference. All of Ibanez Prestige series and signatures series are high end, professional grade instruments. The mid grade RG and S series are incredibly mediocre and boring instruments. The only floyd rose worth having is the original floyd rose and the ibanez edge or lo-pro edge. The cheaper licensed ones are crap. I love the prestige necks and I hate the regular wizard necks. just way too thin.
But the good thing about Ibanez is what they offer for a relatively low price. Their artist models and semi-hollow artcore series are great guitars also.
You know, the new S series with the new trem design (the one riding on bearings) isn't that bad.
They stay in tune great, the bodies look killer, and after a pickup change, sound really good.
I installed an APH/ Cool Rails/ JB combo in a friends and was generally impresed by the fretwork and new trem design.
All that said, I really, really, really hate the neck shape on them. It's kind of U shaped. Great for speed demon styles, but it doesn't have enough meat to dig in. I know I'd cramp if I played it for any period of time.
i think that the difference of wizard and prestige is the wood and the finish, i´ve played with the wizard and wizard II, in fact my guitar is a wizard II neck and it feels quite good but in comparison with a wizard the ultra flat neck is way than better is super duper great!!!
about the taste in axes i guess that varies from person to person... i can give you my guitar taste : i have always like and will like ibanez, jackson and ESP for all the metal rock maniac within me... but now i also like and much gibson or epiphones les pauls, i also think that it depends on the tone you are trying to get !!!
cheers
