Hello everyone!

I'm a new member, but I've been looking here for some time, great source for guitar info.

Anyway, I'm now in the market for a new guitar. The budget is around 500 to 1000 dollars, and I'm looking for a set neck, fixed bridge, dual humbucker mahogany axe. Coil taps, maple tops and stock Duncans would be sweet too!

What would you say is the best guitar in thet range, quality and sound-wise? I can sacrifice all the fancy details (flame tops etc.) for a solid and durable guitar.

I've been looking for the Ibanez SZ's, the Washburn Wi66, the Fernandes... but I'm not sure anymore...

Anyone??

I had been looking at Yamaha AES620s and lucked out and found an AES620HB in a shop and snagged it - what a great guitar! Semi-hollow so it has some quot;airquot; to it, neck pickup is great for mellow as well as blues and rock leads; middle can be cruchy, snappy, or acoustic sounding just from turning the knobs; bridge is a JB and kills for all kinds of sounds. The neck feels great, thick but still fast. The chambered body is pretty light but guitar still has more sustain than either of my Strats! Me likey mucho!

I paid $750 including hard case and taxes locally since they matched MF pricing. The normal 620 goes for less and I would imagine the only diff would be a little more thicker sound as it is solid. I had liked them a lot but the clincher was Ty Tabor playing one for most of a show and afterwards saying he liked the 620 better than his signature model! Nuff said...

There's a mahogany body dual humbucker Showmaster avaliable with Seymour duncans already in it for about $600. I saw it at musician's friend I think. I check and get back with you.

Check it out Fender ShowMaster

Another good one I've seen is the PRS Santana SE.

My Firebird Flying V, SG, and Explorer would be my first choices, they are all right at a grand.

Epiphone Elitist Les Pauls and SGs.

I think Ibanez makes a few guitars like that....SZ series..Nice guitars but I can't get past the goofy inlays.

I suspect if had to go somewhere besides Gibson, I'd go Schecter. Classic series. Nice axe for the dollars.

Are you talking about the Epi's or Gibby's? I thought the Gibby's were much more than that.

For that money it's gotta be an Explorer! No contest!

That black explorer is exaclty what I had and sold 16 years ago. I loved that guitar. I might cry now... what a stupid dork I was to trade it away.

I had a 76 reissue...thats the one that I really feel like an @$$ for trading away...and I do mean a 1976 MADE reissue of the original Explorers...(not the reissue of the the 76 reissue they have today)...BIG FAT NECK. BIG FAT TONE. Traded it in on a Black LP Custom, which was GORGEOUS guitar and played phenomenally well....traded that in on PRS Custom 10 top w/ birds..which was another BIG mistake

Dino, are you going check out the Explorer?

This isn't my guitar it is just 1 i came across last night. ALot of people really like these guitars.

You can pick up a used Heritage H150 for around a grand, I did!
Luke

SG or one those Les Paul Vintage Mahogony guitars

Schechter!

Look for a used Hamer USA on Ebay. The Studio Archtop will have everything you're looking for including Duncan Pickups. If you don't see quot;USAquot; under the quot;Hamerquot; name on the headstock it may not be a USA HAMER with USA made Duncan pickups. Look for quot;USAquot; on the headstock. Lew
