Hi, I just need a little advice. I was setting up a couple of my guitars and I noticed that on both of them that the low E string would rattle (buzz) against either 1st or 2nd fret when ever I played an E5 chord at the second position. Any idea what's causing this. Both of these guitars (an Epi Explorer and ESP strat) have medium-low actions with some relief. I checked the both nuts and they are fine and the fret height on both guitars are all consistant. Could there be too much bow in the neck? Would loosening the truss rod a little resolve this problem? Bob
I'd double check to make sure that the nut is cut right and properly sanded so that there are no rough spots. Bear in mind strings will rattle if you pluck really hard. Excessive buzz usually indicates that either the setup is off or maybe one of the frets is on its way out.
