Many of you know that I recently acquired a Fly from my brother in law. It has a CC in the bridge, and an AIIP in the neck position (custom wound/constructed by MJ on the original Dimarzio platform). I did not like the split coils in the middle pickup position. It sounded thin and quot;blahquot; and I wanted something better.
So, I searched the Parker Forum, and discovered what I needed to do to get the pups in full-on mode in the mid-position. It was really difficult, and it took me a full TEN MINUTES to do...most of which was cleaning the soldering iron so it would heat up.
I heated two connections to release the quot;coupledquot; wires from the selector switch, taped them, put the cover back on the guitar, and VOILA!
Really sweet sounding mod. I recommend it to everyone. The CC is quite a bit brighter (probably because of the poplar body) than the AIIP, and the mid position now gives a balanced tone. Great harmonics, smooth sound...I suspect this position will be used the most in the future, rather than not at all (as before).
Sweet. It's nice when you can do something simple and cause a big change in the sound.
good deal stephen ... enjoy!
cheers
