First the gear:

Peavey Classic 30:

- valves: A matched quad of the JJ EL84's in a hotter grade along a standard ECC83S in V1, an ECC832 in V2 to drop the gain and give a very natural blues tone and a graded ECC83S with a high current output in V3. (according to Eurotubes.com)
- Volume: 2
- Reverb: 6 when heard
- Bass: 3
- Middle: 5
- Treble: 8
- Pre-amp gain: full when distorted, 6 when semidistorted
- Post-amp gain: 2

The guitar was a Squier 51 with a Twangbanger in the neck and a JB in the bridge.

I recorded this with a cheap Collins microphone, using the dry vocal setting of my Guitarport to record the input, so none of the GPs modelling technology would colour the sound. It seemed like the best course of action for me.

Don't mind the crappy playing, it's mostly pentatonic fiddling and power chords. The Squier doesn't hold its tune very well, some pieces may be out of tune.

Here goes:

Twangbanger, clean 1

Twangbanger, clean 2

Twangbanger, distortion at maximum

Twangbanger, distortion at 6

JB, clean

JB, distorted 1

JB, distortion 2

JB in split mode, clean 1

JB in split mode, clean 2

JB in split mode, distorted

The song you play in the JB distortion clip 2, what is that called?? I like it.

It's the main theme of Gary Moore - Still got the blues. I also always thought it sounded A LOT like the verses of Lionel Richie's 'Hello'.

My playing was rather sloppy and emotionless though. Plus one of the notes was off.

wonderfull amp have the classic 50 4x10 combo myself.

im adicted to its distortion channel.no pedals for me and i tried most of em.
yur clips are good, but for some reason my JB sounds nothing like yurs.
im gona get me a nice sound card and post clips with some luck.

Could be my EQ settings... I agree, I thought the JB would push the gain channel harder, though...

I've got the Peavey Classic 50 4x10 myself. Great amp. I've never been a fan of the distortion tone at lower volumes (kind of harsh and buzzy), but it sounds killer when cranked. I find the overdrive channel sounds best when the post gain is at max and the pre is around 5-7.

Is that doable in your bedroom? I always keep the post-gain as low as possible, otherwise things start falling off shelves, sort of speak

ther classic 50 has pre and post plus a master volume, classic 30 does not.
i put the gain channel full on both gains and the eq all at 12 clock, master at 2...gets me pretty close to any rock sound except nu metal .had a crate blue voodoo before(great fender twin clone)and it was way behind that,BUT distorted the clean channel in ways that the peavey can only dream of.
