I picked up a Classic white SG Standard from Music 123, blemished (65% off $647). It looks as though the neck might be cracked (I tried to get a pic but white is tough to photograph), or a deep scratch in to the neck wood. It stays in tune, and if I tug on the peg head it seems to be stable. These white ones were exclusive to Music 123 and there were alot of problems with the paint, many returns, this morning they no longer are offering them.
Should I take my chances and keep it, and risk having problems in the future? or just return it (but may never get another white standard for the price).
Any opinions?
Congrats on your new SG, man. I saw that guitar at music 123 and wanted one sooo bad, but then I read all the bad reviews about the finish. Are you sure the crack is down to the wood? Maybe its just the paint that cracked? If its paint only, I would keep it. If its cracked in the wood, I would return it.
i can't tell for sure from only a pic...but in that pic it just looks like a finish crack/scratch.

Interesting-
It's the right place for the classic SG neck break, but not the usual angle-
But it looks like there is paint on the outside of the crack?
If so, it almost has to be an old crack that they repaired, or just a paint flaw as mentioned before.
This is one of the few times I would suggest a little (not drastic) neck bending on an SG- If it's an incomplete repair, or somehow a crack that has startged under the finish, it will get bigger and then you would send it back asap-
But the more I think about it, it's far more likely that it's a repaired crack or bad finish which is no big deal if it plays well
i bet that is the 1 i returned that UPS managed to destroy and return it without the box. as for the pic it doesn't look like a crack to me. You only paid $647 for that guitar?
For the record it does play and sound better than any SG I've had.

Yea, my friend bought one, and I was checking the site and saw that one...for $719 and a 10% employee discount.
Figured I'd grab it...
It had been played...some heavy scratches on the pickgaurd above the pickups, and it has the purple marks on the bottom horn.
Looks like a crack to me, but if there is no movement in it, then don't worry. It would have to get worse before better.
