Iquot;ve had a FRED, it was a very smooth and vocal sounding pu in my opinion. However, it isn't really suited for Metal. Just listen to Satriani, it's about like that : )
The Super Distortions that I've used were in my Dean originally. They're not bad sounding pickups and they certainly sound full bodied and well balanced under distortion, but I found them to be a bit noisy, with excessive amounts of hum. If you're playing loud, it's not that much of an issue, but once you stop playing there's this annoying 60 cycle buzz going through your system. But they are still a nice sounding pup.
Hummm thank´sz Guys
More feedback please

J.PThe Super Distortion is a fat meaty hard rock type pickup. It's got a fair amount of bottom end and is really warm sounding. With that being said it's better for hard rock IMO and not for something with a tight sound like speed metal or thrash.
The X2N is a very balanced pickup that is tight and cuts great. It sounds very good IMO with no frequencies really taking over so much...my only complaint is that it is too hot. I don't need that much output. If they made the same pickup in lower output I would buy it again though.
The Drop Sonic is alot like the Evolution IMO...it is almost as aggressive and as tight. But the main difference to my ears is that the emphasized frequencies are on the lower end instead of the upper end like the Evolution. If you want a darker pickup but still have it be tight this is your pickup. With that being said, I've never had any Dimarzio sound noisy in any way shape or form...they are equally if not more quiet than the Duncans.
Hails and Thank´s all your guys and RANALLI.
well. two or 3 questions for you Ran...
regarding Super distortions tone... you said that it is not TIGHT right, i want to know about its BASS.. isnt It tIGHT? are you sure?
2 question regarding the x2n, it has more or equally output compared to Duncan Distortion? i´m asking that because i played both, and the x2n seem OK to me in output, nothing of OVERPOWER... and the DUNCAN DISTORTION is overpowering my amps, and old crate GX that i sold.
3 question ..
What i disliked about the evolution, is its too much DEFINITION on Speed picking/alternated picking riffs like Black and deathmetal sutffs... it looses ALL the FUNNY and that vibe when i play those kinds of riffs with the Evolution... looks like the EVO CUTS the distortion and dirtyness when playing with such techniques.
but the evo is very good for soloing, cut through and power chords of thrash and death metal. i mean palm mutted stuff.
and another question... so ... the drop sonic and the super distortion will match very well in the bridge of an alder body, maple cap, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard ?
which one should suit it better? i guess both.. because of the fattness fo the drop sonic, and the EQ of the Super distortion...
answer me please.
Hails and thanks´
hails guys... MORE feedback on the PAF JOE and Super 2.
J.P
PAF Pro is a very good neck pickup. Splits nice. The split is especially useful for clean tones. Very musical pickup, if you can say so, I guess it means it has a lot of mids. Better than Gibson 490r for my purposes thrash/death/black metal or death rock. The Gibson was good, but the PAF Pro is even better. I tried it in my Gibson SG.
Why not Tone Zone??? The perfect metal bridge pickup, IMO.

J.PWell in all honesty, most pickups that have a lot of bottom end are not quot;tightquot;. Tightness is more of a function of how much bottom end there is IMO. I dont' know of many or any pickups that have tons of bottom and and are tight.
The Super Distortion has a good dose of bottom end and mids so it's not going to be the tightest pickup out there. It's not as tight sounding as a Duncan Distortion which doesn't have a lot of bottom end IMO. However it is much tighter than a ToneZone which has even more mids and bottom end and uses an A5 mag as well. And the X2N is definitely hotter than the Duncan Distortion...without a doubt.
I'm not sure what your question is regarding the Evo...you need to clarify.
And I don't know if I would use the Super Distortion in any guitar for death metal where I'm assuming things need to be extremely articulate...it's more of a hard-rock pickup IMO.
The Drop Sonic is a good alternative because it still has a healthy dose of bottom end but it is actually tighter in response.
