OK, got to do the control layout for the dual-humbucker superstrat. Got enough room for 3 pots. Wondering if folks have wisdom on what is more useful:
single volume, dual tones?
Dual volume, single tone pot?
I'm kinda thinking the former, having a strat already, and the vol is closest to the picking hand, so vol changes should be straightforward, but comments welcome.
Al I can think of for the dual vols is the trick you can do with an SG or LP, turn the 'other' PU all to 0 amp; use the PU selector as a kill switch for that 60's hard tremolo effect!
I like the V/V/T setup on my Hamers.
especially in the mid position, where the volumes also affect the tone
I prefer vol vol tone. I usually set the tone as I like and leave it. I prefer to have more control over each pup's individual volume.
V-T-T for me, because I often like having the tone rolled off on the neck but turned up on the bridge
I have a 2 bucker Strat (for sale w/o pickups!) with the V/V/T set up and it's wired so that I can select the middle position and then blend in or out as much of either pickup as I want, the first volume control is for the bridge (makes more sense to me that way) and it's a great set up.
I've only seen it on some Gamp;L's, but I really like the vol/treble/bass set up on my H/S/S Strat.
The treble is just a quot;normalquot; tone control, cutting the treble. The third knob is a bass cut.
Especially with humbuckers, the ability to add or cut bass on the fly is great. Turn up the bass on your amp a bit, then cut it some on the guitar until you want to add some beef...
YMMV

V V T. becos i like to vary the distortion reponse of neck n bridge by controlling volume.

1 on that, this lets you setup the neck clean and the bridge distorted, by using the volume controls.
i had the gamp;l project guitar i put together wired VVT. i wanted to be able to blend the two pickups together when they were both being used (when the 3 way switch was in the center position). I also hardly ever use the tone pots on guitars. i find that rolling off the volume affects the sound more to my liking than turning down the tone
Do any of you have a schematic for 3 pickups, VVT, and a stock 5 way switch?
hey CHill check out guitarnuts.com for strat diagrams.
Sounds like VVT is the consensus, both for blending amp; balancing the 2 in center mode. Still, like Zerberus, I like the idea of having the tones set differently...maybe a pushpull on the tone to switch between it being a tone for the bridge PU or the neck PU....
I'd like VVT, but with the bridge pickup being the Volume closest to your hand, and having them wired like some Les Pauls so that in the combined position, one volume on Zero mutes the entire guitar.

Hmm, I haven't seen any 3 pickup volume, volume, tone arrangements with a 5 position switch. Checked seymour, guitarnuts, guitartechcraig, and googled it...did I miss one? I think I came up with one:
-each pup to one lug of one pole of the switch
-common lug of that pole to the right lug of each vol pot
-wiper (middle lug) of the neck/ mid vol to the neck/ mid lugs on the 2d switch pole
-wiper (middle lug) of the bridge vol to the bridge lug on the 2d switch pole
-common lug of the 2d pole to the tone cap and the out jack
I might also use a different cap for the bridge and neck/ mid by attaching the tone cap to the 2d switch pole's neck/mid and bridge lugs. When in parallel two caps will be adding to each other which may mean the notch positions are a bit dark.
In the bridge/ mid parallel position, both volume pots are in the circuit and the volume will be no louder than the quieter of the two.
I'm not following that wiring setup.
Here's one from S-D: from : localhost//support...way-w-spl.html
Doesn't accomodate the different tone caps, but should work otherwise.

How does the linked diagram work the middle single coil in on the neck volume?
...I may need to draw up a diagram tonight.
C
I like individual control over the tones (except on the middle pu, which I want always dimed anyway) so I vote for the traditional VTT.

CMy Bad!
Missed the mention of the middle pickup later in the thread.
Do you want position 3 to be both humbuckers on, or the middle pickup? Never mind, your description of the circuit just answered that question.
Don't have time for a drawing, but the approach you describe would have both volumes in the circuit all the time. First pole is fine. Link that common lug to common of second pole.
Bag that - check out this schematic from Guitarnuts.com:
from : localhost/how I might have approached it, but it looks right to me. Hope it works.
You may want to post over in the quot;Pup Tentquot; for wiring help.

Oh, great! Now you have ME wanting to change the wiring on LesStrat again.
