what is ur opinion on the gretsch g5125 hollow body electromatics? is it worth getting one?
anyone?
I played one a while back at GC and was fairly impressed. It was no 6120, but it still has the Gretsch vibe and look. I used to be a Gretsch purest, but my taste and mainly feel has changed. I find my Tele to feel more comfortable to me. I will say that a Gretsch plugged into a Fender tube amp is about as good as it gets!! If you get one do your self a big favor and put some TV Jones Pickups in it!! Let me know what you do. Here are some pictures of my old Gretschs .
thanx, i was thinkin about gettin one, defo will be puttin a tv jones tron or tron plus in the bridge, i might keep the single coil neck pup (depending on how it sounds). i like ur brian setzer model ! very nice!
great guitars, seriously
pretty much everyone who plays rock on a gretsch (and also setzer amp; reverend horton heat) use power trons, which is a filtertron wound with PAF wire, but keep in mind they have ebony fretboards amp; these guitars have rosewood
but DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE SINGLE COILS! they are good pickups, a low budget version of dynasonics. If you have a chance, plug in a dynasonic 6120, i'm sure you'll be impressed by the tones they get. Plus, they're a direct replacement, no mods necessary
There's an absolute shortage of cool modern guitarists playing Gretsch's...the only one i can think of off-hand is Ezra from Leftover Crack...his has a Tele bridge pickup and a stock Gretsch neck...left a pretty big gash in my friend's forehead when we saw their show last year
-X
If you want to see a great modern gretsch player, check out Chris Cheney from the Living End. My fave guitarist!
