I ve been playin a custom black beauty tripple humbucker for a few years now. I play in a band that writes and covers bands like GNR, Aerosmith...... I am wondering what would be a good pick up to try and duplicate a sound more like slashes les pauls? thanks

I had an Epiphone LP with Duncan Alnico II pro's in it and It nailed the Slash tone becasue thats what he uses! The other part of the equation is a Marshall and ride the tone knob!!!

The Alnico Two Pro Humbucker, thats what the man uses. I think I read recently he uses a slightlly different version but can't be sure. The AII will get you there.

As for the middle pup I don't know what you can do to it. Maybe use the same 3 pups... someone more experiened might be more usefull.

Welcome to the forum, be sure to introduce yourself in the OT.

If you have a 3 pickup axe, go with the Alnico II pro bridge and 2 Alnico II pro neck positions in the middle and neck!!!!

Alnico II Pros are definitely the pups to get for Slash's sound. In fact, they'll work really well for all kinds of classic rock - Aerosmith, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy etc.

Thanks for all the quick replies, this is a big help and i ll be looking into these pups.

Same as the above, when I had an APH-1 neck I just had to play Sweet Child of Mine every so often. I play on having a complete set again in the future some day.

Sorry i have one more quick question i forgot to ask. I am new to installing or upgrading pick ups, i am wondering if the gold plate can be placed over top the new pick ups or if it is part of the pick up on the recent ones. or if i can get a gold plate with the new ones. Basicly i just want to keep the same look since i will probly only be upgrading one or two at once i don want to have one gold plate in the middle. anyways any help appreciated.

Yes, you can order them with a gold (or chrome) cover or you can attach a cover on yourself. However, if I wanted a covered HB, I'd order it that way from Duncan, I'm just that way.

Just offering a suggestion.

What if you put a Phat cat in the middle? Jchumley put one in between two hb's and seems to be happy (true they weren't APH1's). I'm thinking of this because if my memory serve's me correctly the APS is supposed to be in the PAF family. And a PAF was supposed to sound like a p90 but without the hum. That might make an interresting combo. Just an idea, no experience to back it up.
