I've got an ESP Eclipse (LP style) with a JB in the bridge and 59 in the neck. The 59 in awesome for clean playing and for really smooth leads. The JB is good distorted, but is way to thin to use for clean tones. I'm looking for something with the midrange response of the JB, but more bass. Tight bass response though, nothing to flubby.
Sounds like you need a Distortion or a Custom.A Distortion would keep you closer to a JB but with more bass.
Really any high output pickup is gonna sound tingy and thin clean. You would need a Med to lower output pickup.
A Custom sounds like the best way for that but either way the cleans won't be that good unless you turn down the volume knob or go to a low output pickup.
Is the custom available in Zebra?
YUP! The custom will be a fine choice IMO!
I have no problem coming off the Volume a little, it's gotta be done sometimes. Even with coming down on the output though the JB is a little bass lacking. I'm thinking the Custom.
Custom
one more vote for the custom, which I sadly have not tried yet, but am considering swapping out the Invader in my ESP for a zebra Custom trembucker to at least get a better feel for a pickup that sounds like it would be great for a lot of different applications.
good luck bro ~ Rock On!
Custom: More bass than a JB with great mids and highs like a DD but not
as compressed. All in all, a high powered pup that sounds great clean or dirty
and still sounds huge.
Custom dude... Thight base and good mids.. what style do u play?.. U might want to swipe the mag in the JB for a Cermaic and u get a distortion.
Jocelyn, is that real or theory? I've got a ceramic out of Custom (which is now with A8 mag) and a JB lying around - gotta have to try!
Custom odie, we've seen another one turn from the dark path of the JB
Air Zone or Custom
