I decided to try something out just now with my NS-2...
I routed the cables like this:
Guitar into NS-2 input
NS-2 Output to amp's FX return
Amps FX Send to the NS-2 loop's return
Input to the send of the NS-2
I essentially placed my XXX's preamp in the loop of the NS-2 and....It works better now! I don't get it, it cuts noise off better, but doesn' kill off the tail end of notes as much, even on cleans! I'm assuming it's not dangerous to have it like this, but I figured I'd ask anyways. Either way, it's nice being able to keep it on without all that noise, and to keep the tail end of notes on cleans.
Bump...as I think people with an NS-2 and amp noise would really benefit from this. You essentially isolate the preamp, and it kills noise a lot better.
Ah, ... that's what the BOSS manual tells you to do anyway, preamp or pedal doesn't much matter, the noisy gain stuff goes in the loop (per the manual). I can't say as to what the overall gain in the loop is, but if it doesn't clip on you clean and you aren't trying to push the preamp full blown open into it, on dirty stuff you should be fine. To all FX users ... RTM, it's there for a reason.
