What do you guys think about the Pigtail Music '50s lightweight tailpiece?
This one:
And, what do you think about combining this tail with TonePros locking studs on the guitar? quot; The Guitar, quot; btw, is the Hamer Special Korina Jr. that's currently under construction at Hamer.
Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.
Evan.....I have heard and read many amazing things about the tone of the Pigtail products, especially with the locking studs. The resonance that comes with the solid coupling to the body combined with the lightweight aluminum sounds like a tough combination to beat.
I know that the LPF gets a bad rap sometimes, but there is some good information to be had over there. The pigtail gets nothing but rave reviews from all who have tried it....and these guys have tried them on amazingly expensive instruments. I will be putting one on my R7 sometime soon.
That's my $.02 anyhow.
Steve's a good guy and a friend of my brother Bruce. I'd give it a try. He's the guy who came up with all the jigs and what not to make the Tone Pros stuff and now he has his own company: Pigtail. His aluminum stop tailpieces are very high quality...Doc Barlo has one. Lew
I bought a very nice lightweight TP from Stewmac for like 25 bucks. Works great, looks exactly what comes with the current Les Paul Reissues. Pigtails claim to fame is their steel studs. They claim that Tonepros uses plated brass or something. The Pigtail bushings are supposed to be steel and that's supposed to be a big deal. I held a magnet to the bushings in my 2004 57 Reissue LP and they are steel. Tone pros locking studs and 25 buck stewmac lightweight TP and you're set.
I looked at their web site, all I saw were wraparound bridges. Do they make Tuneomatics and stop tailpieces? Is there really a major advantage over a Tonepros bridge/tailpiece set?
