Since it's manufactured by Fender, would the magnet have to be flipped in order for it to work with Duncan pickups? How does it compare to the original Pearly Gates?

It's not manufactured by Fender...it's manufactured by Duncan and the diff between the PG and the stock PG is that the PG has an alnico 5 magnet which makes it brighter and glassier than the stock PG which has an alnico 2 magnet. I don't know about whether the magnet would need to be reversed...maybe. Lew

No need to switch the magnets or the leads when using the PG with other Duncan pickups. I have one rated at 8.7k in the bridge of my LP and it gets along very well with the standard PG in the neck slot.

Oh. I thought Fender manufactured it because it comes in a Fender box.

When you see double SD humbucker Fenders, they're often a Pearly Gates Plus and a '59 neck. We worked with Fender to develop a special wiring for this combination. In this case, the magnet of the '59 neck is flipped (reverse polarity) relative to other pickups.

So....If I were to swap the Alnico 5 for an Alnico 2 in my PG , would it be identical to a stock PG?

I own one of these PG pickups....Tryed it in my strat and it was bright,bright,bright for me! Did I say bright?

not hot enough to be noticeable, I think. My normal PG was rated at 8.4k, so the wind is probably the same.

The EQ is different, though. The PG has bigger, tighter bass and less mids than the PG. Also, instead of sizzle, you get glass. I like it in my LP, but I do use a 250K tone pot with the PG and PG in my Lester, which is brighter than average.

I've still got the one that came stock in my HH Tele and the brightness is why I pulled it almost immediately. That's why I wondered if it would be worth getting an A2 mag to swap out, if they are truley the same wind to begin with.

I really need to sell mine cause I've tryed it and didn't like it....It really needs an A2 magnet to sound right also.

Unlike you guys, I love mine (8.75K). I loved mine (it was the reason why I bought the following guitar) on my sienna burst lone strat fat strat, 95 LP standard, and a warmoth fat strat. So it is not specific to the guitar that I used it in.

I dunno, maybe mine is different. But it sounds like my 59b (also 8.75K) with added uppermids. It has good bass, kinda tight but not too tight. Still PAF. Its highs ain't bothering me in fact I love it. I use 500K pots and dial my settings to sound ok when the PG uses the tone control at 6-7. Then when I turn it to 10, it really makes itself heard, that it cuts through very nicely.

BTW among all the duncans I have tried, I think an a5 PGb (that is a PG ) is the closest to the timbucker pickups that many LPF dudes rave about and (nowadays) pay like $500 a set!

Doc....Even though my ears have lost the highs in my hearing,I still prefer just a smidge of highend rolloff with my bridge pickups....Could be the bright strat I tryed mine in,but even with a 250k pot,mine was way too toppy for me....This same guitar now has a Surfer/surfer/twangbanger and I Love it...

8.75k, wow mine only measures 8.2k.

Thats what I said...if I could find one that hot I'd be all over it!
