Hey all...
I've been getting into a little bit more metal lately such as Opeth and some other bands with similar tones. My LP is fully stock (BB Pro's). I actually don't really mind these pickups for classic rock tones and some 80's stuff. That's why I never changed them to duncans to begin with.
Now the problem.. I'd like to retain some vintage clarity and characteristics in this baby. I still gotta play some Zep, Framptom, and other early LP users. I'm playing through a 5150 combo, but wait before you say anything. I know I have endless amounts of gain and you guys might just say turn up your gain and you'll be fine, but No! The bridge BB pro is too thin too just dime gain. It's hard enough to make it sound meaty. Playing lead on the bridge just pisses me off. There isn't any singing quality to this pup. see :weak, thin.
Ok, so I need a pup that is meatier, has a singing lead quality, but I DO NOT want a lot of compression. I'd like to retain some vintage characteristics if all possible, but I'm not sure if that's possible. I've messed around with amp settings quite a bit, but I end up just making my LP sound dark to kill the thinness.
So pickup choices: JB, Custom, PG, Full Shred (maybe?), Screamin Demon.. I'm thinking it has to be one of these.
I have a C5 in my strat and sometimes it just seems it doesn't cut through well enough, but it could be a whole new story in a LP? I love the chunkiness I get from it though. I'm still not too impressed by the lead sound though.. Help me out here guys!

The Custom would be a great choice.

The Custom is really good for heavy tones, but a bit too aggressive for low gain tones IMHO. I think that the C5 walks the vintage/modern line better than the Custom.
Thanks for the input so far.. Keep 'em coming..I'm pretty settled on getting a Jazz for the neck. How does the Jazz split with the Custom line?
The jazz will sit well with pretty much any bridge pup.
The Custom!!!!!!! It will work GREAT with the jazz also!
