Found one of these in my local buy/sell paper thing, how much do these things go for??? and how are they tone wise?

I know that gibson put a lawsuit against them and what not, and i have heard that they are good quality.

All of the Tokai Les Pauls that I've played are great sounding. They need a set-up but that is about it. IMO they are way better than the Epi's, and are right up there with the Burnly's.

Check them out, you might like it!

Phenomenal guitars...My special edition MIJ version of a 59 cost me about 1/3 the price of a current 59 Historic reissue 59 from Gibson...Love this guitar, looks great also..
Tokai's are great. I can whole heartedly recommend them

$$$ depends on the year and whether it was made in Korea or Japan

even my korean-made tokai tele-clone was a steal at $300 ... w/ new pups and a setup, it is a real player .... play the one in question and evaluate it for soundness and upgrade-worthiness ... get it for the right price and i bet it'll serve ya well

enjoy

I have never played a tokai I don't like. They completely out-perform the guitars in their price range, even the Korean ones.

Make sure the price is right and you really can't go wrong.

Both the MIJ and the Korean Tokai models are great...The guitar in question needs to be played and evaluated..I never judge a book by it's cover...

hmm... i am sorta excited now i will call the guy and get the price, after that i will play it and then i can tell if im gonna buy it.

Cool...You decide whether you love the guitar or not and don't worry as much about where it was made...LOL

I have an MIK Tokai PRS copy and it is phenomenal for the price. Has a great set of classic sounding PAF buckers on it that I will prolly upgrade for some hotter pups. The build quality is great and superior to my Epi LP. I am currently looking to grab a MIK Tokai Love Rock at the moment as well. I am totally sold on Tokai's.

Also, if your here in the states.
Check out Diodati Vintage Tribute series.
Made in Japan.
Sold here.
I'm pretty positive Pete Diodati has them made in the
Tokai Hamamatsu factory. (by the markings in the neck pickup cavity).
Pete will only tell me that it's a small factory in Japan.

Anyways the quality is exceptional.
Plays beautifully.
Action, fit, and finish is top notch.
Only thing I didn't care for were the stock Gotoh pickups.
Swapped those out.
As most here would anyways to their prefered pickup choice.
Pete will install your choice of pickup for an upgrade fee as well if you don't feel like doing it yourself.
Yes, it has a few cosmetic differences from an LP.
As everyone knows, no exact replicas allowed in the states.

Keep an eye ebay. They pop up once in a great while.
Most don't know what these are. So, they end up going for less than what
the regular Tokais, Burnys, Edwards, Grecos, and Orvilles do.

I tried a japanese Tokai LP type, and I didn't really like it.. but then again I'm not really that into Pauls on the best of days.

It was a decent enough guitar from what I saw/heard but it didn't have the mojo for me

Subjective opinion.. ^^

Still, they're nicely made guitars for the price
