i just finished applying 4 coats of Linseed oil to my guitar body ( mahogany) some danish oil to my neck ( maple) . this all came out nice.

could i also apply some kind of wax to bring out the wood grain shine more as well as give a better feel to the bare wood? for both body and neck.

i asked the company that makes BRIWAX and they said that their wax would rub of on my clothes.

any ideas of what kind of wax to use? i dont want it to be sticky.

dumb question: could i use that furniture polish spray?

thanks

Briwax has some pretty toxic solvents in it. I never use that stuff. That's an English product.

I'd just go with some Johnson's paste wax applied with some 000 or 0000 steel wool.

Linseed Oil doesn't dry hard. It's kind of tough to get much of a shine out of it.

Tung Oil does dry hard and is easier to buff to a soft shine.

You may not like wax on your neck. I don't.

Lew,

thanks so much.

where would i find that kind of wax?? what is it normaly used for??

thanks again.

I would think any really good hardware store would have it.

I don't know if the Johnson's brand is available in Greece but it wouldn't have to be Johnson's.

Just a good paste wax designed for polishing furniture finishes is what you want.

The wax I use is a blend of carnuba wax and I forget what else.

I don't think there's anything in a spray can that will do what you want.

Lew

I'd also recommend bee's wax, which you may be able to find locally

another product is Birchwood Casey's Gun Stock Wax , which is what Ernie Ball uses to finish their Tru Oil finish, which is made by the same company

Just get some Dunlop or Gibson Carnauba wax formulated for guitars. Wipe on, wipe off! It will toughen the finish and hinder the effects of humidity fluxuations.

thanks guys,

i have found a paste furniture polish that is beeswax. so maybe i will try that.

is 100% caranuba wax good as well?

I used that to retreat my EBMM Albert Lee Guitar's neck. It's not difficult and the results are very nice.

i just ordered some Birchwood Casey wax from England since i live in Greece.

i will try that one out!thanks alot everone!!
