Hi can anyone tell me what's the best Pickup for Drop quot;Dquot; hard Rock? I'm looking for a pickup that has that deep bite, growl you hear on alot of todays drop quot;Dquot; songs... thanks guitar Brotha's amp; God Bless!! Kid Hip

Hard to believe all you cogent pup heads can't give me any advice. Please Please help.

Distortion is a good pickup for that. Maybe Invader, but I don't personally have experience with it.

Cool, that's a start, I'll check those out. Thanks JSS

Invader Used by Kac in his 1987 Charvel Model 2 (drop D tuning)
Also used by more famous heavy metal guitarist Mart Morton for Drop D stuff.

Rock On!!!

Distortion is what i have... works great so far.. a custom would probly do it too

JB handles DropD well.

I would have to agree with that as well, but IMO the Invader has a fuller sound in comparison.

Rock On!

I like the custom for Drop D

Dimarzio TZ or EMG 85 for maximum clarity and thump. Stay away from the JB, it didn't have the bite and growl, even in my LP. The invader sounds like ur best bet in the SD line.

dimebucker?

Actually most of these answers are correct....

Custom
Distortion
Dimebucker
JB
Invader

Should all do well ....

i wouldnt of thought of the dime... but ive never played with one.. id love to tho

I would lean towards the distortion or dimebucker.

I am going to have to agree with KAC every single ****ing time!!! INVADER i think would be your best choice I love my Invader and im always in drop d.

I love my Custom with a big ceramic mag. If you want growl and clarity, the Pearly Gates does a good job of it in my LP as well.

Custom does the trick for me. 1980 Ibanez Artist (LP DC type axe), tuned to D and sometimes drop C.

What guitar and amp are you using?

The Custom 5 has a tight percussive low end that works great for dropped tuning, and everything stays clean and heavy. The Custom, Distortion, and Dime seem like good choices too.

I would go Invader for tight drop tunings with seymour duncan. Also a Dime and Distortion. What kind of guitar are we talking about too? You have to figure that certain woods factor in the sound of a pickup as well.

Custom Custom. Our band has 7 songs in Drop D, well actually DADGAD tuning. Anyways, great pickup, it really accenuates the 6(D) 5(A) strings. It has deep, lushish, thick midrange. Very smooth as well. I think it is the best pickup for all-around distortion tones and types. Although, I don't play metal, so I'm not sure how it would sound for that. I do play hard-rock, occassionally and thought it was superb. It does not have a sharp attack, but it will still cut through. Anyways, I'm making a 59/Custom Hybrid, I will tell you how it turns out. I will be selling the other half of the 59/Custom Hybrid. It will be the 59 screw and the Custom Custom slug. Alnico 5 magnet. I will post it in the trade section sometime tonight, after I am done testing it.
